Before the drug nightmare took hold, I remember him being spoken of as one of America's most promising young actors. Let's face it; if you're playing the title role in a movie based on the life of Charlie Chaplin, you'd better have the requisite acting chops, and I think most reviewers have acknowledged that Downey had them. Of course, he's still a relatively young man, he seems to have overcome his addiction problems, and has received some rave reviews for his recent performance in "Zodiac". There are so many stories coming out of Hollywood these days of wasted lives and blighted promise, that it's almost refreshing to hear of Downey emerging from his ordeal, scarred but still alive and intact. Best of luck to him.
