I've lived in Arkansas all my life, and it's a beautiful, wonderful place. We're not hicks, rednecks, or hillbillys. Yes, some places in the south of Arkansas there are country people. But, in the north we're as civilized as any other northern person. We wear shoes, clothes, brush our teeth, go to school and work, live in houses, it's the same as everyone else. It all depends on where you live, what city, what part of town, as far as crime goes. There are beautiful hills, forests, scenery, and lots of things to do. We all have polite ways, manners, and very friendly. We have tons of trees, and perfect weather. It snows some, not very much, but we get snow. We have warm summers, cool falls, semi-cold winters, it's great place in Arkansas. You can't really judge Arkansas until you've lived here. I love Arkansas.

Man, Arkansas is getting a bashing by a lot of people here!  Let's see, we're stupid and ignorant, dumb hillbillys and rednecks.  Hmmmm... Well, all I can say is that these same people haven't met some of the rural Arkansans, the ones who never meet a stranger, are always willing to help anyone, who are kind and compassionate.  They haven't enjoyed our forests, or fished in our lakes, or seen a large Whitetail deer walking through woods of orange ad yellow and red during the fall.  They haven't smelled the odor of Pine trees or woodsmoke, or heard a hoot owl early in the morning.  I guess if one has to be ignorant and stupid to enjoy these things, then I guess that's what we are.

I moved to NW Arkansas from Seattle and at first did not want to be there. I soon grew to love the warm spring, summer, and fall weather as well as beautiful Beaver Lake which I have a view of. In Seattle my little home with this view would probably cost at least $350,000. I purchased it for $130,000. I live in a rural area with diverse trees, other vegetation, and wildlife. I can go to the postoffice in the middle of the day without bringing a book for a 1/2 hour or more wait. Traffic is light. I traveled back to Seattle 2 years ago and could not wait to get back to the paradise of Arkansas. The people are friendly and nice.

The blacks hate the whites and treat them like sh**!
I was terrorized by blacks for no reason other than I was a white girl. 2 Black guys tried beating me up in high school, my car was stolen by a black drug dealer, and the whites are too spineless to do a dammm thing!
They sit around and allow the blacks to call US, the WHITES, racist! HA! Yea, right.
I didn't hate any race at all until I lived in Arkansas & I will never forgive the way I was treated by the so-called "abused poor blacks."
That is a JOKE & a lie.

Without the racism from blacks to whites, I ADORED Arkansas when I passed 18 years old & went to college.
Wonderful food & handsome men.

A few years back, I took the interstate from Memphis to the Texas border and was not impressed. However, I recently took a trip to the Ozarks in the NW and was blown away by the clear lakes and mountain scenery.
Pros- friendly, down to earth people, plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation.
Cons-poverty in the Delta region, no major cities with the exception of Little Rock.

Never been there, never want to be there. This page has quite possibly some of the funniest reviews on Rate-it-all. Rumor has it the East Coast is the only tolerable part of America, next to the West Coast. I might be inclined to give there a try. The Midwest and The South are just AWFUL.

Ok. I live in Arkansas and I love it. It is a very beautiful state that just so happens to have a horrible reputation. It is so sad that people really think that all we do is run around bare-foot and with messed up teeth! Ha~ha! I have traveled my whole life and I have never seen a more beautiful place. People here are nice and greet you when you walk by, unlike the other states. Oh and about us all being stupid rednecks ...right..we are just like everyone else...how about you go ahead and grow up and find something else to put down, not us. Have you ever visited Arkansas by the way? Probably not, because if you had then you would not say the things that you have said. Try going to our state parks, that will shut you up real fast. God has blessed Arkansas with a scenic beauty that is one of a kind and I thank him that I live in an un-selfish, non-stuck-up state. By the way: Woooooooooo PIG SOEEE~~RAZORBACKS!!!

Backward and ignorant, but pretty in the northwest. What can you say about a state full of people stupid enough to elect that womanizing, lying, cheating scoundrel Clinton 6 times? Of course, whats that say about the rest of the country who elected him twice? Scary. And yes lion, Clinton had a brain, I think its name was Mr. Johnson.

Not a great place to live- there are few positives- sorry to say. However whatever Clinton was ( I guess people from Utah are morally all responsible hypocrits who have the right to judge other's -to kar54. But in any case no matter what Clinton was he had some compassion for the little people and he had A BRAIN- which is more then I can say for the current occupant of the white house.

i lived in arkansas for half of my life and some of the opinions given here are obviously given by ignorant people.arkansas wasnt where i was born but it will always be home to me.i lived in illinois for the first 20 years of my life but arkansas feels much more like my home state. this is a hard catergory because to rate a place you really need to stay there for a while ,not just drive through it .obviously there are some idiot yankees giving their opinions

LOL this is what people in Arkansas are pround of!!!! if it wasn't for arkansas you would not have no wal-mart, no dillards, no allens canning company, no post cereals, no winchester or daisy rifles... So basicaly, we wouldnt be as fat, we wouldnt have as many guns, and we wouldnt have as much cheap crap that we buy from a store where the cleanest things are the toilets!

think about it.. if it wasn't for arkansas you would not have no wal-mart, no dillards, no allens canning company, no post cereals, no winchester or daisy rifles... i could go on and on and on.. before you judge the state badly think about all the things you wouldn't have if it wasn't for this state.. being a native of arkansas and now living in denver.. it was kind of an insult to have paris hilton and nicole richie look at the bad side of it..in closing, just remember that arkansas is not a place of redneck beer drinkers playing the banjo watching the grass grow.. it is a place of industry and the home of one of the best darn presidents this country ever had!

Since I spent a good part of my life in Arkansas, I have mixed feelings about this state. I did enjoy the rolling hills and pristine lakes, and as Red pointed out the people are extremely friendly. I didn't enjoy my five year stint in the redneck hinterlands, but I liked living in Little Rock; it is a decent mid-sized city with lots of things to do. Also, the corporate headquarters of such companies as Alltel, Dillard's and Wal-Mart are located in Arkansas. Yet for such a rural state, there is more crime here than you would think. I'm living in a state on the East Coast now, and there is nowhere near the crime that occurs in Arkansas, and frankly, I feel much safer. The roads in Arkansas are in terrible shape because the citizens are too cheap to pay the taxes needed to fix the roads. One lane of I-30 is always shut down because of continuing repairs. And though they are actually quite a few intelligent people in Arkansas, unfortunately the state is hampered by provincialism. The governor of Arkansas is actually a Baptist preacher ! His re-election solidified my desire to move. Finally, living in a state that has such a hillbilly reputation was kind of embarrassing. When I got an opportunity to move somewhere more civilized, I jumped at it.

You know it's funny how people like "Redoedo" can drive through a state once or twice and know it's entire worth. Arkansas is a great state. The beauty of places like Hot Springs, The Ozarks, and Eureeka Springs is unsurpassed in most states. (Just looking at what's off of I-30 is a ridiculous way to judge the state "Redo"). The people are friendly, the weather is warm and you can go out at night without worrying about being beaten or raped. And while there's a tremendous difference in the people and landscape of North and South Arkansas, they are both great in their own way. On more thing; you shouldn't hold anything against Arkansas for that last s**t of a president we had. Just because Clinton was from here doesn't mean he's in any way an accurate representative of the people of Arkansas.

Positive Attributes: I've decided to reexamine my attitude towards Arkansas having recently went up there last weekend. I can see why it is called the "Natural State" because it truly is beautiful. It is very geographically diverse- more than I can say for other states which surround it. Driving is usually a pleasure in Arkansas. I also like the Northeastern part of the state near Missouri. Negative Attributes: Arkansas really has no historical significance and really has nothing to attract visitors other than a beautiful scenery and friendly people.
