The Pan franchise is pretty sweet, with a heavy establishment in Asia. Pan Pacific is part of the Global Hotel Alliance, which includes Wyndham, Rydges, and one other I believe, making the Pan a nice place to work because you get a substantial discount at some top hotels all over the place. I've been spending an awful lot of time recently at the Pan in SF, and it's an impressive place, rated the number 2 hotel in the city by consumers. Rooms are on the steeper end, with $150 being about the best special you'll see during off-peak travel times, and with $250 being about the average room. The hotel is very centrally located in the city, and stands tall and impressive. Rooms are very sharp, and so is the staff - although the attitude is on the stuffy/snobbish end. Problem is, Pan SF is a 4-star hotel that deeply believes and engrains in all its staff that it should be a 5-star, and people wind up having a bit of a chip on their shoulder. Nonetheless, I too would rate the Pan as one of the top hotels in the city.
