Honestly...this would have been a bigger story in the US if the guy who broke the record was American. I heard about this only as a footnoote, and most people who follow sports probably didn't even hear it. Track and Field only gets the spotlight during the Olympics, and anything that happens in between those 4 years doesn't really even occur to 98% of the population.

I didn't hear about it until I read it here. That is mighty fast. 25 years ago, it was 9.95 (Jim Hines in the '68 Olympics).
