 | Bird808 (55) 07/10/2007 | HELL YES!! Do you think any other country in the world would do the same to the US and UK like we've done to Iraq? HELL NO!! We wouldn't tolerate it so why should we impose ourselves on another country, this just makes relations worse.

 | Drummond (60) 03/05/2006 | Absolutely. The Iraqi people should have been left to make their own history. Hussein had managed to hold on longer than we felt comfortable, but his days were numbered as we can see from the complete lack of popular support during the invasion, and the fact that he couldn't trust his own troops well enough to have them retreat into the cities and wait for an opportunity to fight us on a more level playing field. He was afraid they'd take him out.
Call it the "prime directive" view of foreign policy, undermined by the neocon attitude once expressed by Kissinger with regard to overthrowing Chile's democratically elected government: "I don't see why we should allow a country to turn communist due to the irresponsibility of its own people."
And you wonder why we aren't always so popular around the world?

 | sfalconer (22) 03/04/2006 | Dictatorships are bad Ok. If the U.N. had any teeth and/or balls it would outlaw dictatorships. I don't believe a Nation is Sovereign when you have one guy making all the decisions.

 | SZinHonshu (45) 03/04/2006 | Incorrect. The Iraqis (like most Arabs) have proven themselves incapable and/or unwilling of/to governing themselves by any reasonable standards that ensure fair trials, free expression, gender equality and freedom from barbarity. It would be illogical and irresponsible to leave them to their own devices. Iraq should become a U.S. territory for the foreseeable future.

 | GenghisTheHun (177) 06/14/2005 | It is unbelievable but we have adopted the discredited Woodrow Wilson philosophy that we are going to impose Ango-American institutions on the entire world. Have the presidential advisors not read any history at all about this region? The penguins on Antarctica are more receptive to Western institutions than is the bulk of the people in Iraq.
