The sooner we leave the better.

The only option is victory. When we achieve it, then we leave. Not before. We invaded Europe to liberate it from the Nazis. When the job was finished, we came back home. And we invaded Japan to end the war and when we finished the job, we returned home. We went in Iraq to liberate it from the grips of Saddam Husein. When we finish the job, we will return home.

There's a tricky proposition for you. How do you define victory in a way that allows you to walk away and leave none of your guys behind? Historically when an army invades and conquers a territory, the whole point of the operartion is to possess, permanently the conquered territory. Unfortunately the Bush administration hadn't thought all the way through to the end of this one before they headed in.

Consider the numbers posted by luridlloyd. lets go with the high number of 30,000 Americans INJURED. Compare that to the 650,000 insurgents DEAD. Why would we pull out when we are winning?

Now Over 2,800 dead. 20-30thousand injured. Many will never be the same. Johns Hopkins research shows that probably 650,000 Iraqis are dead. In a poll this week 80% of Sunis, & 65% of Shiites want us out within a year. After all this time, things aren't getting better; its a dead end.

I agree with Beazer. Alright, get back in your chair. I agree that the US needs to identify victory in a military sense, such that they (THEY, the Iraqis) no longer need 140,000 armed, trained US Soldiers camped out in their country. The idiotic mantra of bring the troops home now! is not helpful. The people who utter it are generally regarded (by thinking liberals and ALL conservatives) as a distraction to the important discussion which needs to take place. The influence of the terror/insurgency, which today kills scores of innocent Iraqi citizens each week, must be ostensibly and visibly reduced, while the authority of the new Iraqi government must be ostensibly and visibly seen and perceived by both the Iraqi and American people. Terrorists must be captured, tried and punished (or set free, and subsequently monitored). The Iraqi people must show that they believe in their government, in its ability to be fair, just and protective of its citizens. Until that happens, our troops will remain in place and so will the insurgency, and every innocent Iraqi citizen will remain a target.
