This is a fascinating science-fiction novel written in the 1930s. Its depiction of a world tranquilized by sensual pleasure (including orgies, legalized drug use, and 'feelies' a sort of debased version of cinema/television) was quite prescient. Other aspects of the book were less accurate (a world state, a caste-like social system, social conditioning via the manipulation of embryos and Freudian-type psychology...), but it remains a classic. The reason it was banned-the sex scenes-now seem quite tame to our jaded sensate culture; an ironic confirmation of just how far-seeing Huxley was...
