03/22/2006 | He lived about 3 hours away from California's southern tip. It's believable that his parents took him out there when he was a kid.
He probably wasn't ignorant of the geographical difference, so the only real problem with the statement is overstating his connection to the entire state of California.

06/21/2005 | Another thing that isn't really stupid, it just sounds a bit odd on it's own. Pheonix isn't that far from California, so he probably traveled there from time to time. It would have helped if he added that part.
