If someone ever makes up a list of the lamest, most insipid movie quotes ever I hope they won't forget to include this one, along with that "...king of the world" thing from Titanic.

I had no desire to see this film when it came out anyway, but this line of dialogue, and others, clinched it for me. In fairness, I've seen Cruise in a performance or 2 where I thought he displayed some talent, but basically his persona is defined by a brash, cocky ebullience that movie audiences are suppposed to find endearing or cute or funny or sexy or cool or whatever. Me, I find it repellent. Cruise flashes those teeth that are bigger than his head, does some impromptu dance moves around the pool table to "Werewolves of London", or struts his way up to Kelly McGillis at the bar in his "fly-boy" outfit, and I...well, I quickly turn the channel to a movie featuring actors of true and consistent talent. I remember seeing a fragment of the "Jerry McGuire" flick on the TV (it was being shown to promote the film at the theatres), and Cruise and Renee Zellweger are gasping and teary and overwrought, and Cruise as Jerry chokes out (and I paraphrase), "You...make...me whole!!! You ain't...leaving (sob! sob!) me!!! You make...me...(choke!)...complete!!!" And Zellweger, even more nauseatingly lachrymose, gasps, "You...had me...at hello!!" That was all it took to keep me out of the theatre. Thanks, Tom and Renee. Believe me, that was ten dollars far better spent elsewhere, for sure.

Pretty much an "ugh" line for me.

In a pretty much an "ugh" movie.

I loathed this film. Yeah I don't like Cruise anyway, Gooding's performance was ok but overrated, and the quote simply sucks. The best thing about the film is that someone had the good taste to put the awesome early Fleetwood Mac track "Oh Well" on the soundtrack. That bespectacled little kid, the one who was in something called "The Little Vampire" and who's probably about 17 now,  probably right this instant has a wad of coke up his nose the size of one of the moons of Saturn if the 'curse of the child stars' comes true in this case...

Isn't this the same damn movie where they have the vomit-inducing line "You complete me" in it as well?

Just because a lot of people repeat the line doesn't make it a good one.  It could mean they're mocking it.

Corniest line on the list, saved only by the fact that Rene Zellwhatever's lips are beautiful when she is sobbing.
