Scots of all stripes, Highland and Lowland, and Scot-Irish, have been one of the five or so most important groups in the founding of America.

The Scottish are famous for being the whiskey drinking frontiersmen of American history (I consider the Scotch-Irish to be Scottish). Their folk music has evolved into modern day country-western. The fact that the Confederate flag is modeled after the St. Andrew’s cross tells you where this group has had a large influence. The Scottish have also contributed significantly to the gene pool.
