Rednecks are an important group in America. This was a term primarily applied to southern rural whites in the olden days. Now they have expanded. It seems with NASCAR and country music, they have conquered much of the country.

Protestants of Scotland took a blood oath to the that church and not the Church of England. They wore a red/ orange scarf around their necks, hence the name "redneck" meant Scottish desenter. The same for "hillbilly." A "billy' was someone loyal to King William.
