Winning International Support / Sharing the Costs of the War 1

This is laughable. Which nation wants to stick a hand into that hornet's nest?

Whatever strengths this administration has, diplomacy isn't one of them. Say what you like about not caring about world opinion, but America's greatest successes on the international stage have usually been accompanied by some level of diplomatic success.

As I've said in other postings, we had the support and sympathy of most of the civilized world after 9/11. It was a great opportunity to truly make a united effort against global terrorism, but we've squandered that opportunity. Rather, the Bush Administration has squandered it, with their typical short-sighted arrogance. They've never made a secret of their contempt for international opinion. Every step of the way since 9/11, their policy has been disastrous, and reprehensible. Osama Bin Laden couldn't be safer. We've removed Saddam from power and have him in captivity. I don't mean to sound callous, but my response to that is...so what? Big deal. There's an old saying...You knock down one terrorist and 10 more pop up in his place. We've inspired terrorism where none or little existed before. We've removed a despot. Great. When we remove the even more murderous despots worldwide that we're friendly with, or that we've done business with and continue to do business with, I'll be properly impressed. The world has become demonstrably unsafer in just a few short years and our Moron-In-Chief isn't finished yet. Blood (American and Iraqi both) continues to be spilled, billions continue to be squandered, and the end is still not in sight. I've never been more unhopeful about the future than I am now.

I am afraid America has lost its moral lead and influence over the world over this affair. Most of us are now looking towards a new way of working than the American model, based on new global economics...will America join us or will it carry on following Bush's impudent lead?

I've said from the beginning that a more mature and diplomatically skilled administration would have succeeded in building international support for our Iraq efforts. The failings of our current administration in this area have cost our country lives and $$.
