Worst thing ever done. He kept both side at bay.

Possibly the ONLY good thing so far.I'd rate it higher if the price was not so egregious.Rotten and heavy handed as he was,it seems that the people had running electricity and some small amount of stability under his boot heel.Now the Shiites and Sunnis have decalred open season on one another and our troops are stuck there in the middle.

No question that we were successful on this count. The two stated goals of this war was to revome Saddam Hussein from power and install a new regime that would be amenable to American interests. On count one, we not only removed Saddam from power, but did so quickly. The problem was our post-war administration.

** FYI - For the people with no desire to know the truth or listen to it: Saddam was NOT in a hole. Even though the Pentagon denies it (once with no follow upwhats new) the capture was staged a day after Saddam surrendered after a firefight that actually participated in. ** Saddam (and his sons) were horrible people that needed to be removed from power. They held a country captive. The fact that his rule is over is obviously good. Unfortunately the country is in a state of chaos and looks to continue in that direction for YEARS to come. Its obvious that the planning for the take over of Iraq didnt go too far past getting Saddam out of the way.

Can't argue that this didn't get accomplished. Also pretty hard to argue that its a bad thing.

It Took a man with President Bushs resolve to get this done and quit all the talking. This is the typical picture of a evil coward. Without his guns and evil henchmen he crawled in a hole like a cockroach, and we dug him out.

Truly a victory for all free people. Quickly and easily, the villainous leader had his powers over the brainwashed Baathists ripped away. His loyal soldiers surrendred willingly by the thousands. His equally-evil brothers were killed, and thus eliminated as a threat to others. Saddam was found in a tiny hole, in sad shape. In two months time, Saddam Hussein went from being one of the gravest threats the free nations of the world faced to a pathetic coward, hiding in a hole to escape his unpreventable capture by the Coalition. Now, he is secure in an undisclosed location and while he may ramble some to his keepers about how to treat women and such, he is now harmless, thanks to the brave nations that acted in the interests of democracy and justice.

The only goal that we really completed, the one that really needed to to done, and guess what, IT'S DONE. It was the only acheivable and legitimate goal we had, and now it's done. It was absolutely a good thing to get Saddam. And now, what else?

I'd say this is the only part of the war that went well. The toppling of Saddam was accomplished quickly, mostly because his army refused to fight. It kind of seems like the powers that be were really good at figuring out how the combat part was supposed to go, but not so good at figuring out what came next. Time will tell, I suppose.

Well they certainly got that accomplished. I wonder if it was worth it?

Whatever else you may think of the war in Iraq, and of George Bush, it's pretty hard not to call this a success.

Kind of ironic because our government had some responsibility for his rise to prominence in the first place.

As part of the war on terror Saddam represented a grave threat because he at one time had weapons of mass destruction, had used weapons of mass destruction, still possessed the ability to make weapons of mass destruction and could have passed them on to terrorist organizations for use against America, our installations or soft targets. Saddam also met other criteria: sadistic leader who butchered his own people, attacked his neighbors, defied 17 United Nations; and Iraq itself logistically made him strategically the next priority in our War On Terror. If the United States could remove him from power and prop up a friendly democracy in that region our ability to destabilize the balance of power in the region (this has occured already) and carry out future operations (mostly covert, particularly in Iran). As for evaluating the execution of this goal you'd have to say we accomplished one. Saddam is in captivity and being tried by Iraqi citizens for crimes committed against his own people. He's no longer a threat to his neighbors, violating UN resolutions nor is he a threat to pass dangerous technologies on to terrorist organizations. The Iraq people have had their first free elections and they're working on a national constitution that incorporates all the various tribes and ethic backgrounds within a pluralistic system. Hey, this stuff isn't a walk in the park and we've made huge ground.

It's hard to argue that the removal of a brutal dictator from power is not a wonderful outcome.
