I was born here, then lived in 4 other states. I can honestly say this one is the worst. I live in Las Vegas. The crime is out of control, and the police force and state government don't do anything about it because 90% of them have an IQ closed to MR. The valley, except the parts right next to the mountains, is filled with homeless people, meth heads, and gangs, the show Cops has a permanent crew here because there's so much material. 90% of the locals here are downright rude and ugly, nothing worthwhile on the inside or outside. This is probably due to our education system ranking in the bottom 5 in the country. They don't learn to drive properly. About half the population are illegal immigrants who don't speak English; some of the billboards don't even have the English language on them. I would move out of here in a second if I wasn't one of the maybe 3% normal people here, and if I didn't have a high paying job.

Besides Vegas and Reno there is amazing things about Nevada. The state is really beautiful, and the people are all very friendly. I always find there is a great deal of things to do in Nevada. I did some kayaking on the Colorado and it was amazing!

Its more than Vegas, but its a lot of desert and heat.   If you're prepared for that some of it is well worth seeing.

I'm totally bias, I was born and raised here so I really don't understand why people say anything bad about Nevada.  I'm actually from Las Vegas and I'm not a drug addict, gambler, hooker, or mormon for that matter.  I don't live in a hotel or anywhere near the strip either.  Sure it gets too hot in the summer but the natives aren't restless, we're quite nice.  I kinda feel bad for people who don't live here, we have 24 hour everything and you can't beat our 99 cent breakfast :)

Mormons, degenrates, brothels, and desert.  I can see why the federal government uses this place to test its most lethal weapons of destruction that and silver mining.  This is one state that lacks almost anything except an abundace of sunshine and air pollution i.e. Vegas

VIVA LAS VEGAS, RENO, SPARKS, LAKE TAHOE, CARSON CITY, HENDERSON, ELKO, PARADISE!!! A beautiful state with amazing scenery, tourism, gambling, fun, recreation, weather, and the politics are also amazing. No income tax, and even the liberals here are gun friendly. The perfect combination of the Old West and Glitzy Glamour. No other state in the U.S. is like it. It is PERFECT. Atlantic City is only a cheap pathetic replica. People ought to stop calling this place a polluted, sinful, nuclear dump, and focus on how marvellous it is here. Land is also very cheap. This is probably the most Libertarian state. It is one of the few states left where smokers can also be free from Those California Meatheads. ROLL THEM BONES!!!

Can Nevadans hold out against the encroaching California hordes?  No income tax is a big draw in any case.  The natives must strive mightily against "Californication."

This is my home state. Las Vegas is the best place to live. You won't be rushing to the strip every day if you live here but it is still pleasant. Reno is nice, but can get kind of cold in the winter. Carson City is full of weird western type hicks. Lake Tahoe is beautiful. Death Valley National Park is nice. All in all a 5-star state due to the beautiful scenery, nice climate and Las Vegas, a city totally unique in the world.

There IS more to Nevada than Vegas, but you have to like the desert and "dry" heat to enjoy it.Vegas is pretty obnoxious, and I can't even begin to imagine how much energy is wasted lighting up the glittering strip that is a lot like the prostitutes it is famous for.An OK place to visit,as they say-but I'd never want to live there.Nevada will be one of the first places where WATER will become a real problem.Human beings just do not want to take care of the Earth until it is so abused it can no longer sustain us.Nevada is very dry and very polluted-and an excellent example of what human greed and hubris can do to the environment.

Reno is a boring little haven for retirees from California to gamble. Lake Tahoe is a pretty lake that is good for recreation, but is overrated. The entire core of nevada consists of dead skeleton towns and is very bare and unappealing. The drive from Reno to Las Vegas during my drive there during the summer was long and dull. For some reason there has been unexplained cases of brain cancer in the small towns of central Nevada, hmmm I wonder why? Las Vegas is the only other major city in Nevada. While the strip is entertaining and clean (due to the mega-corps). It seems the strip has progressed from a dirty gambling spot, to a kids spot, and now a haven for the posh 20-30 somethings, hmm.. what will they try next? The outside neighborhoods are like sprawling headaches of strip malls and ghettos against hot asphalt. Henderson and West Las Vegas are for your retirees, cookie cutters, and your families. Beware Hoover Dam and their security checks. Outside of Las Vegas where prostitution... Read more

This state rates 49th out of 50 states for the 'intelligence' of its populace. Well there is some validity to this, believe me. Las Vegas is a dry overpriced plastic ersatz mecca of nothingness. Reno is not much better- and Carson City is a sorry dump- Tahoe is beautiful- but hardly redeems the remainder of this sorry state. Filled with deserts, poison from past nuclear testing, snakes and scorpions. And the water will soon run out- take your chances at the roulette wheel.

Aside from Lake Tahoe, a dusty radiated state, with garish LV as the epicenter, there is really nothing of beauty here.

A nice place to visit, but I definitely would NOT want to live there.... I enjoyed how much of the world is represented in this little city via the themed casinos; this aspect was quite fun. The area between the strip & downtown is quite dingey; it leaves a lot to be desired physically & spiritually.

The high felt as the plane passes over the Grand Canyon and then just ahead you see the lights of Vegas is undescribable. The pilot says we will be landing in Vegas in 20 minutes. And the lights get closer and closer and bigger and bigger. Then you land!! It's an amazing feeling walking off that plane. The sound of those slot machines and the advertisements for the shows gets me spyched. Waiting in that big line for a Cab and then finally getting driven to the hotel on the strip amidst the light is just incredible. Playing blackjack till 6am, drinking a vodka and cranberry. If I win enough money I may call one of those girls on the cards that are all over the place. Oh Vegas! Viva Las Vegas!! Viva Las Vegas!! Viva Las Vegas! As for the rest of the state I have no idea. I guess I should venture out. There's plenty of brothels outside of Clark County! Whoo!!!!!!!11 Whooo!!!!!!1

The desert moutains and scenery around Las Vegas is cool, as is Hoover Dam. Lake Tahoe is magnificent especially when you approach it from Carson City climbing up the mountains and at the summit the lake ringed by snowcapped peaks come into view. Breathtaking indeed. Aside from these attributes Nevada is a weird and ugly state. Just a lot of emptiness and dirt. Every sinlge town and city there is lives and breaths on gambling. Basically their economy is based upon ripping people off. Not cool.

Besides Las Vegas, Reno, Tahoe and the Carson City, Nevada is virtually uninhabitable. Las Vegas is fun if you like glitter, glamour, gambling, and a superficial culture at it finest. Reno is crap hole, besides the casino's in and around Virginia St the rest of the city looks like a giant stock yard. Tahoe is nice, although it could do without the Vegas touch as much of the focus is on should be on outdoor activities.

A barren landscape. Posion in the soil, with the garish metropolis of Las Vegas- which does not have the infrastructure to support the hordes of newcomers- which means it is one big botched up mess- this view is held by smart visitors and residents alike. Becoming vastly overpriced- the real estate market is being pumped up by greedy speculators. Not a bad place to live 30 years ago- it is not now.

I guess Las Vegas has redeeming value- if you like glitz and living in a desert that will soon run out of water. Hoover dam is interesting- I guess. Tahoe is very pretty. The rest of the state is a dry dust bin with radiation lurking from past atomic testing and nuclear waste storage.

I LOVE Las Vegas. You've got to be able to take the heat and the eventually annoying sounds of slot machines (at the grocery store, the 7-11, you name it). I'm not big on gambling but I do like the 24 hr. lifestyle that is a byproduct of the gambling industry. NOT A PLACE TO RAISE KIDS, people who are native to Vegas seem to have this warped sense of reality (everything is $$$). NO STATE INCOME TAX. I moved from Virgina to Vegas, taking a cut in pay and actually ended up taking more home. Don't know a lot about Reno (more expensive & exclusive than Vegas). Vegas is a very gritty place. There are street gangs (Bloods, Crips & Girson Park Kingmen (GPK - Black & Green)) in certain ares, be careful. Not a place for gambling addicts. There's always something to do if you want. Cost of living is relatively low for the West Coast, however the growth would disuade me from returning to Vegas. I lived there in the early 90's and recently for a couple of years. It's getting worse not better, cong... Read more

California's dusty backyard and Smoking Section. Between the nuclear testing sites and virtually unregulated exploitation by the mining industry, it has some of the worst per capita environmental degradation in the nation. Still, it retains a few beautiful pristine areas (for now). I have some hope that the bigger cities will grow some culture with their recent population boom, but it won't happen right away.

The 2 stars are for Lake Tahoe area. Other than that, the rest of the state is a desert and/or nuclear waste dump. Las Vegas may be the worst idea for a city, like, in history. A place where people who cant afford to come to gamble their money away. Of the largest metro areas in America, Las Vegas has the fewest adults with a college degree, which explains why they are there to begin with. Not too bright. Maybe the aliens living at Area 51 will get into government office somehow and re-make the place.

Get out of Vegas sometime to see some truly gorgeous desert and mountain scenery. Also check out Virginia City, a living ghost town that hasn't been turned into a Disney park.

Nevada is the most boring place on earth. As a matter of fact,it's as boring as a rock. That's why old people come here to retire. In some parts of Nevada, prostitution is legal yet they can't hire 15 year olds and up for a job?In general, this place has crappy weather, people, and when you enter a station, the first thing you see is a casino and smell the rotten stench of ciggs.

Ok I love golf but up until I read LAgal02 post I had never thought of Las Vegas as a travel destination. I cannot not believe that the city has over sixty courses. I came across this site called vegasfreedom.com. It is a great site with lots of Vegas golf info, including a section where you can order a free brochure on Vegas golf courses. Now I cannot wait to go to Las Vegas and golf. VIVA GOLF VEGAS!!

Going to Las Vegas, Nevada is so incredible! There is so much to do that I couldn't decide how to split my time. One thing Las Vegas is great for are the golf courses! Check it out if you are a golfer because there are over 60 beautiful greens to chose from!

Gambling. Mafioso. Brown, brown, brown. Blowing sagebrush. Yucca Flat Nuclear Waste Disposal. This is the Nevada I know. Outside of Reno, Las Vegas, and Carson City (three of the fastest-growing cities in the country), Nevada's economy is not very diverse, having historically followed a boom-or-bust mentality. Driving through is my idea of a visit to Nevada. UNLV was put on probation for a few years because of recruiting violations. What a way for a state to sell its esteemed academic institutions.

I lived in Reno on and off for years. Reno is OK. Tahoe is gorgeous and Carson City is a pathetic place. YUCK! Nevada is almost pure desert. Rattlesnakes, Black Widow spiders and scorpions are everywhere. I would walk out to my garage in the summer time and I couldn't count the black widows that were in my garage on my fingers and toes.

I've only been to Nevada once, so I suppose I have no business rating it! But let me tell you, the week I spent out there in Las Vegas was one of the most fun-filled weeks of my life! As soon as you step off the plane, you know you are in a whole 'nother world. The sights are breathtaking, there is so much to see and do and experience! And I'm not just talking about the casinos. The desert and the mountains are absolutely gorgeous...this coming from an Ohio boy who had never seen such sights before. All in all, I think Nevada is a rockin place and I look forward to the day I can return for my next vacation!
