I have contempt for people who knowingly perform poorly at their job, whatever it may be, when they have the ability to do better. Most jobs are necessary for our society to continue operating, and I respct people for whatever it is they choose to do.

I can't imagine anybody having contempt for somebody with this kind of a job. Most manual work is back breaking and very hard. If anything, I think they should be commended.

nothing wrong with manuel labor. they are hard workers.not everyone can be in a white collar job and this work is important.where would we be without the manuel blue collar workers. think of all the things we would not have. I would like to see some of these white collar yuppies take a crack at their job. ohhh they might break a fingernail!

i find people that do this think little about themselves
Miss_Perverse 07/01/2005
Unfortunately, there are people who do this. The logic I believe in is, it's the bus or train driver, that gets them to their important job. Or it's the cleaner fixing up the mess the office worker created.

I had some a-hole make that little stiffled laugh at me on a Satellite job yesterday. Thought I couldn't hear it but I got freaky good ears. I decided not to be a bigger ass and point out how much money Satellite techs can make. I am out earning most people that I went to high school with as they are mostly making less than $15 an hour and ass deep in student loans to boot. We freaks that barrel though your attics are the finest people you shall ever know except for Jarheads. UPDATE: These bastards tend to get overcharged by unscrupulous workmen if they think the customer is an ass.

I have met people like this, and generally speaking they tend to be arrogant, self-centered, and just all out annoying. Folks with this issue have a complex about themselves. To judge a person based on their occupation is contemptuous to say the least.

Well, I can't say that it bothers me because I wouldn't associate anyone who feels that way. I can't remember meeting someone who actually felt this way. . .

I can't stand the snobs who think they're better than others because they've got a cushy job. This isn't only for blue-collar jobs, but also for people who work in fast food joints, or are waiters/waitresses or other people in positions in which they serve others. I would say that everyone should work at a back-breaking minimum-wage job for a year just to learn some humility, but I've seen people who have worked at McDonald's for years that STILL treat people like crap if they perceive them to be lowly.

I know way too many guys who make twice the money I do getting dirty and sweating in the sun all day. My Father in law will make way more than 100k this year working on Boat motors in Galveston! Im flat jealous! It comes down to choices. I respect hard working people no matter what they do.

The puffed up snobs who refer to auto-mechanics as grease monkeys probably couldn't even do a MINOR repair on their over-priced status symbol vehicles. Many people who work with their hands are highly intelligent:some choose labor over management or sales because they LIKE physical work,or detest being stuck in an office or behind a counter.

This one irritates the piss out of me, simply because most of those that are irritated with manual laborers, would never, EVER do manual labor themselves. I, on the other hand, have great respect for those who are doing a job, being it painting, or mechaniking, or lawn maintenance, that I am unwilling to do myself. I'm greatful for those who will do the jobs that I can't/won't/shouldn't simply becaue it means they get done, and well, and I didn't do them.
