Not great but certainly a notch above the original.

I feel that Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was a travesty. Willy Wonka (the original movie)was a great movie, filled with delightful songs, fun scenes, and an important underlying message. Gene Wilder was great as Wonka. The remake, on the other hand, focused more on Wonka than on Charlie, making Wonka more of a caricature than a person. Depp's portrayal was very disappointing in my opinion. I feel sorry for the kids that may never know that the original exists, and only know the remake as the "wonka story".

The first one was more kid friendly than the remake, but the remake was just screwy enough for me to enjoy. Johnny Depp did a good job as Willy Wonka.

I like the original but the remake is a trip.

I liked it because it was closer in tone to the weirdly dark Roald Dahl book than the 1970's film version and because I think that Tim Burton is the best director of his generation at delivering the kind of candy coated gothic scares that the story deserves. And Johnny Depp hit the mark again, proving that he can do anything on the screen.

I did enjoy it, but it was nothing compaired to the real deal.

This was an okay remake. To me Gene Wilder was perfect as Willy Wonka so it was hard to see anybody else play him. The one thing about the remake is that is goes by book a lot more than the original version did. The original was more enjoyable for me though.

Overall, I enjoyed it better than the original. Although, I liked the oompa loompas and their songs better in the original. Also, Willy Wonka seemed too much like a child molester to me. But other than that, great film.
