Very common in the world today especially since the world power structure gravitated from the old bi-polar to the present mono-polar (if there is such a word.) The USA is the sole superpower standing subject to the rise of the Far Eastern powers. We shall see if the USA can maintain itself after it extricates itself from Iraq, probably one of the larger, if not the largest strategic blunder in US history!00

In my view, outside Muslim-dominated nations, international anti-Americanism stems mostly from a combination of envy and naivette. Though my examples are now fairly dated, when I first met my spouse (who's Brazilian), she told me that the vast majority of people from her nation seem to think of Baywatch or Beverly Hills 91210 as prime examples of how average Americans actually live. Moreover, anti-Bush sentiment amongst the international press is extremely high, and should foriegners even read the American media, it is typically something like the New York Times, which as many well realize, not only endorses, but fuels much of the fire against our current Administration. As such, there's clearly no mystery why such often high levels of anti-Americanism currently exist.

Sorry, the image that came to me when I sqw this was the episode of the Simpsons in which Bart accidentally moons Old Glory and Springfield is made a pariah. The subsequent Kent Brockman news report was replete with a tape from the Middle East showing people dancing in the streets, firing guns in the air and waving pictures of Homer.
