 | GenghisTheHun (177) 03/28/2007 | This doctrine was very common in the 18th Century and many of the USA Founding Fathers were deists. It arose after the discovery of various natural forces by Isaac Newton and others.
In a nutshell, this belief circumscribes the power of the deity by natural forces. As an alternative, it taught that God created the universe, set everything in motion, and then stepped aside to let nature take its course.
The watchword was "Whatever is, is right!"
