I'm not sure about this, it's more of a slogan anymore. It's one thing to wave a flag, and quite another when you have to set it down to protect the way of life it stands for.

Meh, don't really care. If America goes to Hell in a Handbasket I'll just move to Australia and wrestle Crocodiles. :-D

If you're a patriot, good for you. If not, good for you. Patriotism is not a big thing for me. Heck, I don't even own an American flag and I have no intention of buying one. My choice.

I'll wave my flag anyday.

I love my country, I'm a patriot and I'm not ashamed to say it. Granted, we are not perfect, but I haven't given up on my country. I actually think there is a resurgence in old fashioned values. I think alot of people are looking back, to a better time. I don't care how corny it sounds, I still believe in patriotism. I don't have to justify it.

I'm a patriot. I love my country, but I'm not dismissive of it's imperfections.

I have always been a patriot and probably always will be. While I believe that America is changing rapidly for the worse, (and not really because of the govermnment but more because its people have no sence of honor any more)I will always love the country that gave me the opportunity to reap what I sow. While the generations of young Americans are in my opinion leaving behind the ideals that made this country great, I still value the ideas that made our country what it is. The land of the free. Happy Independence day to all.

I seriously just finished watching the movie The Patriot about 20 minutes ago.

Overrated idea. So you're a patriot. . .Russian soldiers were patriots. . .Terrorists believe they are patriots. . .Mongol invaders thought they were patriots. Of course the good ol' USA is a great place- but far too many people use patriotism as a reason to stop asking the tough, uncomfortable questions.

Patriotism can be defined as a devotion to your home and community. Yes, within that context, patriotism is good, for it creates a sense of communal values that we can all rally to. Pride in your community forms the basis of civil society, without it, we'd all be running around without considering our neighbor. However, there is another meaning of the word, and that refers to the religiously slavish devotion to country. One must realize that the state is not an entity with a mandate from God nor it is completely infallible. It is human just like anything else, and it is our job, our patriotic duty, to make sure that no injustices are committed in our name. To say otherwise would be moving one closer step towards totalitarianism.
