08/27/2007 | Presbyterianism is basically the church system imported to the USA from the Church of Scotland. It is Calvinisitic in doctrine.
The Presbyterians were highly important in the early history of the USA. The main resistance to the King in colonial times, outside of New England, was in the Presbyterian or Scots-Irish parts of the colonies. In fact, many wags in Parliament in Great Britain called the War of American Independence, a Presbyterian War.
