I am hopelessly addicted to postsecret. "There are two kinds of secrets: those we keep from others, and the ones we hide from ourselves."-Frank WarrenIf you haven't already heard of this website, then I recommend you check it out. We all have our secrets, but Frank Warren has found a creative and unusual way for people to share their secrets anonymously. People have been mailing their secrets on original postcards since the project began in 2004. Originally started as an art installation, Postsecret has since acquired quite a following and expanded in to a collection of books and regularly updated postings every Sunday on the postsecret blog. Collectively touching, shocking, humorous and redemptive, Postsecret is a tribute to the human condition. It is a poignant reminder that each and every one of us has at least one secret we keep from the world and despite our differences, that is one thread that ties us all together.

I've liked this website ever since my good friend introduced it to me. She said she was thinking of sending a postcard in herself, so watch out for that, folks...I've always liked the secrecy and the style behind this site, as you can really feel the other people's souls when you read their secrets, however serious or silly they may be.

I'm not sure how to classify this. If he were getting tapes of people speaking I would laud him for his efforts in preserving oral history. Here, he has accessed an entirely different level of culture. A culture of secrets. Whether they are true or not they reflect the ideas and thoughts going on in our population that we usually sweep under the sheets and pretend that such ideas just don't exist. My husband told me about this site actually not that long ago; most confessions are quite disturbing (I would doubt that some of them are real, but then again, I've been surprised time and time again about the bizarreness of reality), some are funny, a lot of them are sad. I wondered why a bunch of strangers would want to tell their secrets anonymously. It prompted me to tell my husband the rest of my secrets (given, they're not anywhere NEAR as extreme or bizarre as the stuff they've got on PostSecret, but I figure it still counts). And, oddly enough, I kinda felt better. So, I guess it probably makes these people feel better. If it works for them, I say go for it. This ranks high as a personal blog because, well, though it's personal, it's not about the person who put the site up; it's about a lot of people, some with real problems, that just wanted to get it off their chest.

Addictive site. Incredibly creative and personal confessions, all mailed in via postcards. I first heard about this one on NPR, and it really is an amazing grassroots, Internet story. Definitely worth a look.
