The great Australian racehorse of the 80's, Kingston Town had to be managed very carefully due to his bad legs. He could only run 4 or 5 times each preparation but won from 5F to 2 miles frequently carrying top weight... Only 3-time winner of Australia's WFA chamionship - the Cox Plate - the 3rd time when at the 1/2 mile, the race caller declared Kingston Town can't win as he was held up behind tiring horses while rivals swept woround him approaching teh turn. Next time he was called was as he sprinted to the lead in the straight. Trained by the legendary T J Smith, who also had the great champion of the 50's and 60's Tulloch. TJ once said (of Kingston Town)... I have never compared another horse to Tulloch, but that little black horse.... he can run; stopping short of actually declaring him Tulloch's equal but if you saw the interview and read teh faraway look in his eyes..... well, you'd wonder what he really thought. You don't have to wonder what I think.
