Everyone should see Yellowstone and Grand Tetons National Parks in their lifetimes.

I work in the oil and gas fields in Wyoming and it has been home all my life. I have been all over the western united states and Wyoming is the only place that I have found home. I live an hour from the Big Horns and an hour from the Black Hills. I like the fact that in 20 minutes from my house I can be in the middle of no where and not see a soul all day. If a person likes that, but if you like the busy life this is no place for you. It is laid back life here.

Way too flat. They need to buy a hill or something.

LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT... ANYWHERE THAT HAS MORE CATTLE THAN PEOPLE IS MY KIND OF STATE!!

Great place to visit, beautiful in the Jackson Hole/Yellowstone area at leat. Those who love the outdoors should visit at least once in their lifetime. If you don't like the outdoors, for goodness sake stay in the city! Don't know if I could live there, cold in winter, but then dry cold isn't as tough as damp cold we have back east. I guess the negative comments here come from people who find Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston more to their taste culturally and politically. They are more than welcome to those places, better that they stay there in my opinion. Been there, done that, and I wouldn't want to be in any of them, basically. And before they brand me as a redneck hick, I can confidently say I am better educated and better travelled than any of them!

I haven't spent much time in Wyoming, but one time - on my way to Frisco back in '65 - the Greyhound stopped in Rock Springs for a dinner break and as we were leaving, a skinny colored kid came running down the street yelling, "Wait for me!" The driver stopped and let him on the bus and he sat down next to me and told me his story.
It seems he'd been on the bus 24 hours earlier and was tripping when he went into the cafe for dinner. When his steak arrived, it had psychedelic green swirls on it and he asked the waitress to take it back. When she insisted the meat was fine, the lad put up a loud argument, so the manager called the cops and the kid was booked for drunk and disorderly.
Twenty-four hours later, they let him go just in time to catch our bus and by the time he told me his tale he'd come down and realized the green he'd seen on his steak was hallucinatory.

Wyoming is great if you like the outdoors. If you don't then stay away that is fine with us. If you don't like Wyoming or its people then stay away. We love our small towns, beautiful mountains, the parairie, low crime rates, friendly people, wildlife, and being able to just get away from everyone.

Wyoming is a big beautiful state and most of its cities carry a small town charm about them. Jackson Hole is a great place to raft down the Snake River. Cheyenne has a fantastic state fair. And of course there is Yellowstone National Park. Cody has the Buffalo Bill Museum which is unbelievably interesting. In Wyoming there is plenty of open space, the air is clean and the people are friendly.

I had to respond to the ridiculous claim that Wyoming has no culture. It has a cowboy hands-off sort of culture. It doesn't have a lot of diversity, but what do you expect among the least populated state? Out of every state I've been to or lived in I love Wyoming the most. Also, people in Wyoming are no more racist than in any large city I've been to.

I thought this was a poll on travel destinations, not places to live. I loved the time I spent in Wyoming at the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone. And the time I drove across the state I was fascinated with the feeling of being surrounded by the sky. I would never want to live there, however.
GenghisTheHun 10/20/2005
Mountains and little else but extremely nice people. I guess Yellowstone National Park has to be given kudos since it is the first national park in the history of our land.

For sheer natural beauty and quality of life (assuming you don't have to work for a living) Wyoming is a paradise. Idon't hunt nor fish, but would love to relocate to Wyoming and start in on those pursuits.

I am a city girl, so I would not be happy to live in Wyoming since it lacks the population. However, the western part of Wyoming (Yellowstone and Jackson Hole near the Teton Mtns.) are breathtaking. It is worth seeing at least once in a lifetime.
outbacksun 06/15/2005
Rated this low for a reason. No culture, no diversity, no sophistication. Mostly ranchers and farmers with an isolated outlook that is 100% different then urban and coastal America.

Wyoming is cut off from the reality of the real meaning of America-not diverse, very rural and a populace isolated.
Cage_rules 05/24/2005
Awesome scenery, peaceful, friendly people, but eventually I would probably get too bored to live there.

Wyoming is a beautiful state; probably one of the nicest I've seen. Culturally, it may be a little behind but it's not necessarily their fault. don't stereotype and knock people just because they don't meet 'your' expectations. For all of you who say Wyomingites are biggots, you'd probably find more biggots on one street block in nyc. Wyoming is a nice state and has nice people.
entra 03/17/2005
Great if you are a backass bigoted hick who is cut off from the rest of society.
Spacewolf 03/17/2005
Some wonderful scenary near the Grand Tetons- the rest of this state sadly to say is a barren waste land culturally. Too bad- it remains a backwater cowboy den of nothingness-
Tauceti 01/28/2005
I must say- Wyoming's hometown boy VP Dick Cheney and his 'respectful' outfit at the ceremony in Poland at the death camp at Auschwitz yesterday (1-27-05)- was 'interesting' to say the least. I guess this exemplifies the proof of the barbaric state of affairs in many of the 'uncivilized' red states. An image I supose of the so called current state of the 'American Democracy'.......This wonderful display of fashion faux paux and lack of empathy is another reason to avoid this dreadful state.

Wyoming is probably the last frontier of the continental U.S. Cowboy culture is still deeply ingrained here. The state hasn't seen the strong economic development unfolding in its mountainous neighbors such as Colorado and Utah, which is somewhat of a good thing. The rugged(mostly) prairie has a haunting, unspoiled beauty, highlighted by the sweet smell of sage. The western portion is home to a portion of the Rockies, home to the famous Yellowstone(though crowded with tourists in the summer) and the chic Aspen wannabe resort town of Jackson. With the exception of Jackson and Laramie, the cities and towns proper are run-down and anything but spectacular. Casper, for example, is a great stop for trucks but not much else. Laramie is a decent college town and the place I'd most want to live in in Wyoming. Overall, the state is too right-wing reactionary for my tastes, but if you hate urban sprawl and congestion you've got it made.
subaru7 12/03/2004
Not for me- cowboy conservative? perhaps- ok if you are anti social and anti change- otherwise never ever consider this culturally barren state.
celticprince 11/07/2004
right wing reactionary- bordering on neo fascist- all white, ayrian nation BS- too cold, harsh and windy--avoid at all costs!
opinion585 10/31/2004
If it so great, why is it the least populus state in america! They sleep with sheep, and i don't mean take naps with them! NOT TO MENTION THAT DICKHEAD CHENEY CAME FROM WYOMING!!!!
Elf_ears13 10/17/2004
Very scenic, but a bit cold - even in the summer there was snow!
fezzador 08/16/2004
Wyoming seems to be a lot like Colorado, but without the people and culture (which is both good and bad). It's 480,000 people are almost all white and rural, and its only public 4 year university is the University of Wyoming in Laramie. On the upside, it boasts excellent skiing and hunting and other forms of outdoor recreation. If you're an indoors-type of person, Wyoming may not be for you. If you like losing yourself in natural beauty and staying away from large cities and crowds, give Wyoming a shot. A solid three stars.
Blanco~Nino 07/09/2004
The natural beauty of wyoming is perhaps unmatched by any other state.
Solenoid DH 04/18/2004
I love the lonely beauty of Wyoming. It's been written that Wyoming is what America was. The only drawback is the C-O-L-D weather!
kolby1973 01/11/2004
Wyoming is possibly the best state in the whole country ! Wyoming is still relatively clean, and unspoiled. The people are really decent, and there is hardly any crime at all. It is cheap to live here, with really high paying jobs. I recommend this state for vacations as well. The nature alone is astounding. Wyoming is awesome. (the fact that Wyoming is the lowest populated state in the world makes it even better...when I get tired of being in the city and need a break, I just go back home...almost always peaceful...) Wyoming is a work of wonder...I love it...

I would love to visit the home state of my favorite country music singer. Someday, and when I do, Kaycee will be my first stop.
EricTKO 11/30/2002
I lived there for a decade one year. If you like the COLD and WIND you will love it. There is a reason it is the least populated state in the union.
Al-Davis-Lives! 03/27/2000
I think Wyoming is a great place to live and visit. If you like to ski, fish, backpack, climb, raft, kayak or whatever else you can think of you can do it in Wyoming. It's an all in one state and if you haven't been you should make plans to get there!
