VERY important. A good lead off hitter should have an on base percentage of at least 350 or higher, 400+ being outstanding. Drawing walks and getting on base is vital as it increases your teams odds of scoring runs. Alot of sluggers or players that hit for low average will have low on base percentage obviously.

Extremely valuable measuring stick. Far more useful than batting average.
