I don't know...getting sent to cool places to cover bad weather sounds pretty good to me.

These so-called "reporters" are nuisances to many of us and laughingstocks to all. They put themselves in situations of artificial danger, unlike the real danger facing a correspondent in, say, Iraq. Rick Sanchez on CNN has been to the go-to-guy lately for this kind of stuff lately -- not just bad weather but anything involving immersing yourself in some supposedly life-threatening condition. For example, I recently saw Sanchez on CNN escaping from a sinking car to demonstrate how hard it is. (Like we didn't know that already.) The original jackass of journalism, Geraldo, pioneered this with his running of the bulls in Pamplona a couple of decades back. It's a bad job only because it involves a desperate cry for viewers' attention...an appeal that often seems to work.

You have one more thing to talk about...

Right on the "sitting with (our) feet up on a leather couch" bit. Insane, but that's not what I would do for a living. What's the deal with their coverage? Surely the first time might be fun, as with chasing tornados. How can anyone tell they don't have suicidal tendencies? Is what happens to them great television? Do the higher ups care?

Being a lover of weather, be it nice or severe this would be a great job. I am involved in this now being interviewed but on the other end of the camera. (I'm not a reporter)

There can be worse. In fact, this assignment would probably be fun.

No matter how bad the weather gets, I get the feeling these guys love their job. I think I would like it. Seems exciting.

Often this is entry level or just above it, so the folks doing it know they're paying their dues.

There are a lot of people that would like it. I have a cousin that would consider it a dream job if he had the reporting skills. I do think it can be silly at times, especially when they keep telling people to stay inside, stay out of the weather, it's dangerous to be out. Then they say, Let's go to Charlie, who is standing in the middle of the hurricane!

I love inclimate weather.

I actually would love this job!

Sometimes it doesn't look like much fun. Just hope they never hire a guy who has a toupee!
