Look at the economy of PA which is ran liberals and then look at the growing economies of the states that are ran by conservatives and then ask; who can make an economy run well! The values that are held by Senator Santorum are the same values that make states like GA, NC, SC and TX expand.

This guy is not going to win the nomination because he is NOT going to survive his re-election in 2006. His opponent, Bob Casey, is already leading him in the polls by double digits. And I will be surprised if a state that voted for Gore, Kerry and the liberal Arlen Specter could stomach this new Barry Goldwater. And I don't think the Republicans will be stupid enough to nominate a guy that is very likely to lose his home state and a guy that was defeated in his re-election (especially if it was in a landslide). Overall, I don't see this campaign taking off.

No, the party bosses would not invest their money, time and operations on a person who is so gaffe-prone and right-wing. I do believe that he is capable of establishing a national organization, given his connections with the evangelicals, but I don't know if the political currents are going to be right for him in 2008 to win the GOP nomination. Unless if moderates like Giuliani, McCain, and Pataki split the vote, I don't see him getting the nod. In fact, there's a decent shot that he might not be re-elected in 2006, although Santorum does have political talents and has been in tight spots before. He probably won't win the Presidential nomination, but watch him.

Having seen/heard nothing but soundbytes from Rick Santorum, I expected to despise him when I heard him interviewed. Just another guy who thinks that government should tell me how to live my life, and is somehow accountable for applying its "morals" on me. But when I saw him interviewed (on the Daily Show), I actually liked him. He came off as much less extreme than the soundbytes would have you believe. My impression is that this guy is very talented - smart, charismatic, charming. That being said, fairly or not, he is considered an extremist. I just don't see him being able to win Republican Party endorsement over guys like Giuliani and McCain.

I certainly appreciate CA4life's open-minded comments but I have to agree with Szin and Zuch. He has been successfully portrayed, fairly or unfairly, as the Hillary Clinton of the Right. It's funny, but I thought that First Amendment Rights extended to conservative senators but apparently the "right wing media" all the liberals decry had other ideas. I don't foresee him putting together a national campaign.

Santorum is a bad word for many Democrats and more liberal minded people. His values are further right than many potential nominees, and he is not likely to bring in as many moderate voters as other candidates for the nomination.

Religious nut with lukewarm academic credentials. He is W amped up about 3 notches. What I mean by that is he is completely unelectable in any large metropolitan area (save possibly Philadelphia or Pittsburgh). And he has enough of a "paper" or "sound bite" trail that would cause him to lose at least a few key states that would make the difference in a national election.

The senator from PA, has unfortunatly been precieved in a bad light by his previous comments regarding the Sodomy law in Texas. First let me address that he never equate homosexuality with incest, this is what the mainstream media has tried to lead people to believe. All he was doing was making a comment on judicial activism, Rick Santorum is not homophobic. In fact it was recently reported that one of his highest ranking staff members is in fact gay. When Rick Santorum was asked about this in an interview, he made it perfectly clear that the man's job was NOT in jeporady, and was HIS job for as long as he wanted it. However Sen. Santorum is facing a tough reelection battle and has already announced he will not seek the nomination for the presidency in 2008. Still I think he may still consider a run, I believe this because of his recently released book: It Takes a Family, that and the fact that he might be persuaded to enter, because he might be the only conservative candidate in the Republican Primaries.
