All you need is some butter and a little salt and you've got yourself a little slice of breakfast heaven. If you really wanna shake things up, throw in some shredded cheddar, and man you can't beat it.

I travel in the South a lot and always eat grits in the morning. I always call for cinnamon and sugar for the grits, pour milk on them and then you have something. I get lots of dirty looks about this.

I never had grits until I was in my 20's, but once I tried them I was hooked. Most nonsoutherners or people that did not grow up with grits can usually take'em or leave'em, but I find them tasty, though when it comes to breakfast, potatoes are still my first choice.

The preferred side dish of the South. Über simple, über easy, über good

It's awful and tasteless.

Living in Canada, its not a food item you see a lot of. When I've had it in the south, however I enjoyed it, although its a little bland.

Better than oatmeal. Not only does it lack the somewhat off-putting slipperiness of oatmeal, it is far more flexible. Grits are great with melted cheese, just butter, maple syrup, and other ways. Grits can even be a side dish for lunch or dinner. Easy to prepare but I know of no way to salvage the leftovers in the pot, which congeal and dry into a very hard mass. So don't make more than you care to eat in one sitting.
