A food, a meal. Where are peanuts alone (roasted; in the shell; etc) listed?Eat 'em up on a daily basis if not exactly for nutritional purposes.

A stalple to any american child's diet. Sadly, however, it's often one that you grow out of. I hardly ever eat a peanut butter and jelly sandwich anymore, but every time that I do, I'm reminded of how stinkin' good it is. And for goodness sake, use grape jelly, not strawberry.

Ode to Peanut Butter Oh peanut butter, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. Food of my youth, sweet nectar of heaven, thine smooth, creamy peanut buttery-ness envelope my senses...

I've been living in the states for almost 2 years and I still don't get the point of peanut butter. What do you combine it with? something sweet, something salty, do you eat it with a spoon, spreaded on bread?....

Peanut butter isn't American.

Five stars for natural peanut butter only! Like most Americans, I was raised on the peanut-flavored jar of hydrogenated oils, salt and sugar that we call peanut butter. As an adult, I discovered the real thing and realized what I'd been missing all along. It wasn't love at first bite, but more of a gradual discovery. Finally it dawned on me that this was what it's supposed to tastes like. Now the old fake stuff tastes like what it is-- junk. It's one more example how we tend to think what we're accustomed to is right, even when it's really just a shadow of reality. There's no going back.
...Oh-- have you tried almond butter??? Also amazing!

The corn syrup stuff is disgusting, but real, natural peanut butter is an American classic. Adopted into Southern cooking together with many other Indian and African ingredients (Sweet potatoes, Okra).

Not sure this belongs on the list as peanuts originated in South America, and peanut butter is consumed in many countries. It may be true that peanut butter was popularized in the western world when it became popular in the USA. However, peanuts were introduced here by slaves from Africa, so there's a question in my mind if this is truly an American original. Good stuff anyway.
