I've never really understood the point of making sloppy joes when you could just use the ground beef to make hamburgers instead. While some may have other reasons why you might choose the sloppy joe over a hamburger, I can only think of two situations where I would personally go with sloppy joes over burgers.1. You're making food for a lot of people. If you were making food for 10 or more people, sloppy joes would certainly be easier.2. You're using wild game. I use a lot of venison, but I find that ground venison can occasionally be a little too strong for regular burgers. Although I would honestly prefer to use it in stuff like chili or taco meat instead of sloppy joes.

An irresistible guilty pleasure on a cool day, with more than a dash of Tabasco sauce, purist principles be-damned! (Will also confess to delighting in most anybody's meatloaf. Where are they, BTW?)

They truly are sloppy, but I do like them.

I suppose they would be considered an American dish. I probably have these about twice a year. that is how often I am in the mood for them. they are okay. but not something I want all of the time. of course my sloppy joe sauce comes from a can. maybe I would change my mind if someone had a good homemade recipe for them.
