I prefer the original movie, but the new version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is worth watching. The visual effects were pretty impressive, and I liked all of the color in most of the scenes. I prefer Gene Wilder's sarcastic, eccentric Wonka to Depp's childish and disturbed character. It was somewhat cheesy that they used just one actor to play all of the oompa loompas, and CGI'ed him into different places. The actor did a good job with it, but it just wan't as good as the original. I think this version shows that if done right, there can be a benefit to remaking an older film. However, if the original was a classic, I think there is no beating it with today's film making.

Dep is a quirky, marvelous actor and Tim Burton shines. Cinematography is colorfully wonderful.

Definetely not as good as I expected from Johnny Depp.
