I remeber when bus fare was cheap and it was a bargain to ride the bus, even now with higher fares it is still a bargain. We may be asking in the future, "Remember when everybody had a car?"

In those days we had at least three bus lines in the Bridgeport area - CR&L, City Line, and Gray Line. Rides cost a nickel or a dime (I think they were up to a dime by the time I quit riding). Buses were noisy, smelly (Diesel fuel), but usually pretty reliable.

 | Randyman (116) 07/20/2005 | I'm leery about bus drivers and here's why. In 1975, I was waiting for the bus to take me to the Main Street Gym, in Downtown Los Angeles. As I was waiting, two old ladies walked up and also waited for the bus. We were talking for about twenty minutes when the bus came by. I stepped aside to let the ladies get in first, then as I put my right leg on the step, the busdriver shut the door on me, with my leg caught in the door, and started laughing. He just stared at me. The two ladies kept telling him to open the door. None of us were prepared for what he did next. He took off down Whittier Bl. with my leg in the door. There ws nothing I could do. On one leg, in heavy traffic I was hopping and trying my best to keep from going under the bus. I couldn't believe it! I could see one of the ladies hitting the driver on his back, I'm yelling and pounding on the bus, not believing what was happening. The guy had a demonic look on his face, there is no way to describe it. He just started going faster and faster and I figured it was just a matter of time before I went under. Suddenly he stopped and opened the door. I took my leg out and as I was getting my balance and composure, and just as I was about to step into the bus, he shut the door in my face. Then he just took off laughing. I ran to the curb, picked up a rock and threw it, but it just bounced off the bus. Then unbelievably, about two months later, like Deja Vu, I was waiting at another bus stop and two old ladies came, and waited. I remember thinking No way. The bus pulled up, I let the two ladies get in first again. The bus driver looked at me started laughing and shut the door and just took off without me! At least this time my leg wasn't in the door. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. I've been suspicious of bus drivers ever since.
