Marshall is the Chief Justice of the Massachusetts State Supreme Court. She wrote the majority opinion in "Goodridge v. Dept. of Public Health," the case that ruled that the Massachusetts constitution differed from the Vermont constitution and required that same-sex civil unions be given equal and non-seperate status from opposite-sex unions of marriage.
