My mother adopted a boston terrier who was being fed this crap in a bag and the poor dog was in such poor condition. He shed uncontrollably. The wood floor was covered in black and white hairs. His eyes were dry, his energy level was a 0 and his breath smelled horrible. She switched him to a grain-free diet and he improved drastically. The biggest difference was the shedding, we finally didnt have to sweep the entire floor 10 times a day.

All in all, Ol is terrible! I guess a lot of people buy it because its cheaply priced but its cheap because of the ingrdients. Its a bunch of junk food! And if this is all the more we think of our beloved pets, than something is terribly wrong. These ingredients speak for themselves

I had to buy a bag of Ol Roy due to losing my job.I had at first thought it was a good food. However after reading here i will be looking elsewhere for better quality food. Please always check the ingredients label and if you don't know if their good or not.Look up the FDA website. The have a link where you can type in any ingredient and it will tell you what it means and what it's made of.
We had a family dog that died a couple of months ago.He had Cancer and only lasted four short months. We researched every possible cause of the cancer as it does not just come from nowhere. Finally we checked his dog food. There has always been some form of meat by product in it.Like most we didn't think nothing of it.That was until after some research we found that meat by products aren't only horses, pigs, chicken parts etc.But that the City of L.A alone.Hands over 1000 corpses of Euthanized cats and dogs to the meat packing plants where old horses go.The chemical used to Euthanize does not burn off in the cooking process. So it stays in the dog food and is absorbed into the animals body causing cancer.

I have friends who are cheap and bought Ol' Garbage (Roy) This is like feeding your dog floor sweepings, plus I have heard that they put other things in to stretch and preserve that are no good for your dog, would you feed a family member crap just to save money? no so why your best friend! My one friends dog got very sick and almost died plus one other friends dog did die who had been healthy. The food is no good so research it and get a safe, healthy food for your friend, I would never give my friends crap,I give them Chicken soup, for the dog lovers soul ,and mine thank God have lived to 15 yrs.Thank You George Pappas

I recently bought my 2 yr old chocolate lab a bag of ol roy because my roommate and i both lost our jobs in this lovely economy and I can't afford IAMS..I fed her one meal of the Ol Roy and searched the reviews on it.
I started with IAMS for the first year and a half.. and for the last six months I've used Pedigree, even though apparently that has a lot of fat in it-- I just know that its better than ol Roy. So... after reading all of the reviews on this page I'm going to throw the Ol Roy away.. and cook her meals until Payday next week... Then I'll get Pedigree again. Thank you all for all of your inputs!

This food stinks and we all know it. But it seems a lot of people feel that it is cheap and dogs can stomach anything-so why not?? Well I'll tell you the best reason-and it has nothing to do with ingredients and everything to do with cost. If you switch to a premium high protein brand-Orijen, Horizon Legacy, Innovo, Taste of the wild, etc. You will be feeding your dog about HALF of the amount you would need to feed them in comporable quantities of Ol Roy, Purina, beneful etc.

In my area Ol Roy is about half the price-so really no difference in cost!!

So why not buy a better brand and save your dogs health for the same money??

There are a lot of people out there feeding Ol' Roy and giving it good ratings. These people should stop looking at the pretty pictures on the front of the bag and READ THE INGREDIENTS!

I feed a dog food that has NO corn, wheat or soy, NO by-products, NO unnamed meat sources, and NO artificial colors or preservatives. Ol' Roy has ALL of those things. A lot of people hate Wal-Mart products because of their reputation for being cheap and crappy. That's especially true for Ol' Roy dog food. They buy up the cheapest ingredients available, add some artificial colors, flavors, and preservatives, and cook it.

Of course, Wal-Marts sole purpose is to make money, so the health of the dogs that eat Ol' Roy is an afterthought. For that reason, Ol' Roy has been recalled over and over again. Not only is it unhealthy to feed your dog this kind of food, it dangerous. Dogs have died from eating a bad batch of Ol' Roy. DON'T brush it off. Your dog may be next.

Also, to the person whose corgi died at age eleven, I am truly sorry for your loss. To the person who claims that eleven is old for a dog, think again. A dog can easily live to be fifteen years or older on a premium food.

What I'm trying to say is this: if you really know what you're talking about, and you actually care about your dog, you don't feed Ol' Roy. Ol' Roy dog food sucks.

maybe you all should pay a little more attention to what the lables read. because as of now, there are no ingredients that contain corn , or any of the stuff your saying it does. My dogs a healthy 70lb pure bred Alaskan Malamute, and shes perfectly fine.Im sure you all know of Iams, the vet prefered brand of food. Thats probably up in the running for the most expensive food on the market. Well, just as the "reviews" and b.s you guys are reading, a review came up about iams stating that it gave their animal diabetes. Too much vitamins, protien and fat are just as bad, as not having them. If you really want your pet to be that healthy, cook their food. Its not that hard to go to a cheap grocery outlet and buy the real food you are fed to keep them healthy. Its probably just as much as buying can foods, and a lot healthier. Heres a step to saving money, and making your pet possibly happier. You never know, all animals are different.
* 6 cups water
* 1 pound ground turkey
* 2 cups brown rice
* 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
* 1/2 (16 ounce) package frozen broccoli, carrots and cauliflower combination
hope all goes well.

So I'm guessing the cavemen fed there dogs Eukenuba, cause I'm wondering what is so hard about seeing that a dogs stomach is more apt to except scrap foods and such because it is none other than a dog! What does it take to see that a vet is reccomending $900 dollar a bag food, because they are compensated for reccomending this stuff! Its called advertising!! Thank u vets for providing care for our dogs but come on no one is that stupid!!! We all know that "Tylenol" and Kroger Pain Killer have the " on " same effect, lets get real, my dog eats whatever is on sale and is 13 years old, so to everyone out there downing peoples products! Boo to you!! Food is food, it would be much more safe to feed a dog natural products, like soup bones and real meat but instead we have 9 million companies producin the same stuff with different labels and we are fallin for the bull....OL'Roy you have my vote.....and dollar tree that crap you have has my vote too!! And my dog is still my Angel, Bless her sole!

By-products,

BHA,

Artificial preservatives

Thinking about feeding your dog Ol’ Roy dog food? If so please think again. Ol’ Roy dog food is probably the worst dog food on the market right now. I wouldn’t feed Ol’ Roy dog food to my worst enemies dog. Ol’ Roy dog food and treats have been involved in numerous dog food recalls.

First five Ol’ Roy dog food Ingredients:

Ground yellow corn
soybean meal
ground whole wheat
corn syrup
poultry fat
I have looked at the first five ingredients of a lot of dog food brands and I have come to the conclusion that this is the worst first five ingredients I have ever seen. First of the first ingredients of Ol’ Roy dog food in CORN. Corn is pretty much useless as far as a nutrition stand point. Corn does your dog absolutely no good. If that wasn’t bad enough lets go head and through some grains in the first five AND THEN lets through sugar in the first five. Who puts sugar in the first five ingredients of dog food? Are you kidding me?

A lot of people decide to buy Ol Roy dog food based on the fact that it is cheap. Thinking like this will catch up to you in vet bills. Your going to take your dog to the vet twice as much as you would if you fed your dog a healthier brand of food.

When looking for dog food, look for a brand that has at least two sources of meat in the first five ingredients, and contains no corn or grains.

WOW...some people just DO NOT get it. ANY food that you can buy in Walmarts is not worth the time you took to get there. For the person who is SO WORRIED about people's spelling...WHAT does this have to do with the crap food , i.e., Ol' Roy??? Obviously, you are an EXCELLENT speller, so go look up FILLER and ANIMAL BY-PRODUCTS in the dictionary.
Put the kibble in a bowl with water. WAIT...Watch it swell up. That's EXACTLY what it does in your dogs stomach!!! There is ABSOLUTELY NOTHING NUTRICIOUS about this food. NOTHING. When is the last time you took your dog to the Vet? Had bloodwork done? Checked his weight? Companies are spending BILLIONS to come up with food that is HEALTHY. WHY would you feed your dogs STUFF that is waste???
Animal by-products. Can be hoofs, hair, intestines from slaughtered horses. Oh boy! Now, that's some good eatin, don't ya think???
It seems that no matter what you advise people, they are so stuck in their own world and no matter what anyone says, they will argue with you till the cows come home. KNOWLEDGEABLE dog owners can only tell what they do RIGHT for their dogs. They try to educate. But, ya know...some people wouldn't be happy even with a free lunch. They would complain about something. So, keep feeding this "food" if you want to call it that, and watch your dogs slowly go down hill. Oh, of course, there are ALWAYS those that will say..."my dog lived to 23"...
OK...Sure...Did he LIVE, or just EXIST. How many people TIE their dogs to trees, throw a bowl of this "stuff" to them, and walk away. You see it all the time. What a life!!!
If you TRULY care about your dogs, then just read the first few ingredients on the Ol'Roy Dog Food bag...IF it does not have a meat product, you are feeding them a kill diet. In fact, go look at ANY bag of dog food. IF meat IS NOT LISTED in the first 2-3 ingredients, then let them eat out of your garbage can...A MUCH BETTER DIET than this crap.

My dogs have been eating Ol' Roy dog food for several years now. I have had no bad experiences with this; my dogs love it. For me and my dogs there is no need to pay for all the added extras that come with some of the higher priced bags. More importantly how can anyone really trust half of the terrible reviews when people are posting reviews with misspelled words (when there is a spell check provided) and poor grammar. Buying off brand foods does not mean that I do not love my dogs, they have been such loving assets to my family especially towards my children. So if someone would like to explain to me how I do not love my dogs because I buy Ol' Roy I am all ears.

I have 4 of the happiest and healthiest dogs anyone could ever hope for. I have been talking with my sister-in-law about the different ingredients in Ol' Roy Brand Dog Food, and I feel like I have been talking to a wall. All she can talk about is the "animal digest" in it. What everyone should think about is that ALL dogs are domesticated wild animals. ALL dogs eat EVERY part of a prey animal they kill in the wild. They don't care if it is noses hips toes or fat.

Something else that others should think about when talking about Wal-mart brand foods is that they are paying less for the very same product. Name branded products are 100% the same as store branded products. You pay up to $4.00 more for the name than you do the store name, ie: Pedegree. Dog food is not the only product that is made by other companies and gets put into a store brand container. The next time you go to the store look at the lable of your favorite can of fruit. My guess is that if you read Dole on it and pick up a store brand it will read "manufactured by Dole For (insert your favorite store/company here).

To close I would like to include that if you have all that extra money that you dont want you can feel free to send it my way. I love and care about my dogs happiness. A will give them what makes them happy healthy safe and insures that they will be the same 4 loving animals they have been for the last 9 years. Baby age 9 Ares age 8 Alala age 6 AJ age 2.

Do dogs like Ol Roy? Of course they do! However, it's the equivalent of feeding yourself McDonalds every meal for the rest of your life. It tastes good, but it's just junk going in and not very good for you. There are other, better options out there. Just because an animal likes something doesn't always mean it is best for them, much like humans.

And just a side note, the ingredients are based on weight, not quantity in the bag. Just because a meat is listed first, does not mean it is necessarily the most abundant thing in the bag. It could list corn further down, but what weighs more a chunk of chicken or a huge bag of finely grated corn meal?

Just something to keep in mind.

Corn, wheat, and soy are great ingredients but feeding fillers is better than euthanasia foir lack of a home. Do the best you can. If you have to buy the cheap stuff, the Ol Roy skin and coat isn't corn based but lamb meal based. It is the only food in this price class that doesn't start with Corn as the first ingredient. It does have all the fillers the others do but in lower proportions. We feed a mixture of Bil-Jac and Natures Variety, 80lb Lab is satisifed with 1.75 cups a day, 75lb Pit 2cups a day, and the 55lb Pit is only 2yrs old so he gets 2.25 cups a day to keep him going strong. All are perfect weight, per the wholistic vet, and look awesome. Keep in mind that proper daily exercise is almost as important as the food, and grooming come sin a close third. Without all three in the correct balance, you CAN'T have a healthy dog!!!! God bless all who care enough to read these posts!!!!

I started feeding my lab ol roy 3 yrs ago and now he's dead. 3 days ago I
had to put him down due to pancreatitis caused by the fat in his food. My
vet told me that ol roy is one of the worst dog foods you can give your dog
because it is loaded with fat and eventually the pancreas stops breaking it
down and begins to release an enzyme that actually turns on the pancreas.
This is a very painful way for a dog to die. I thought at first it was
great as well, he looked good and had lot's of energy but so do we after a
sugar rush or energy drink that is no good for us. Imagine how your body
would react to living on energy drinks and fatty foods all the time.
Putting your dog down is hard enough imagine knowing you could have
prevented it by doing a little research on what you feed him.

Reading all of this is making me laugh at some of these people.

The person who had a corgi that lived 11 years. That's not too bad for a dog. Maybe it died because of something Genetic. Not because of the dog food.

I had a German Shepherd Dog when I was growing up that refused every kind of food but Kibbles and Bits which is much worse than Ol Roy. I think I read the first ingrediant was corn? That dog lived to be 18 years old and died of old age of all things.

My family was poor and the dog didn't get anything but the minimum amount of vet care. If the dog got hurt, I bandaged it up. I loved that dog and played with it all the time.

I have another German Shepherd now that I am an adult who is an amazingly picky eater. She won't eat Old Roy, but I don't see anything wrong with the dog food.

Dogs are not vegetarians. Wolves are not vegetarians. Have you ever seen a wolf chowing down on a rabbit with a side of oats and brown rice? Of course I also haven't seen them eating corn or fillers or chemicals. They eat meat.

If we are so worried about feeding our dogs dog food, maybe we should just feed them straight organic beef that spent a week going cross country on a truck. That way when it finally gets to us, it is almost rotten. Better yet, let's all buy ourselves 100 acres and raise our own cattle and slaughter them ourselves to feed our dogs.

Organic food is nice. I grow my own. But I will buy non organic food in the store too.

I see nothing wrong at all with Ol Roy dog food. Dogs are not designed to live 50 years. Depending on breed, they may not live 15 years. A lot of dogs are inbread these days and they have a lot of genetic problems.

I do believe that meat should be the first item on the ingrediants and that the dog food sould have at least 30% protein. A dog is a carnavore and even 30% protein is probably not doing the dog justice.

Unfortunately for me, my dog will only eat the $29.00 a bag dog food. She will only eat Exceed and then only the chicken and rice flavor. I have tried other brands including one $50 a bag dog food and she wouldn't eat it.

Picky eater.

After the dog food scare, dog food companies had to rethink what they put in their ingredients. If Ol' Roy is really "killer dog chow" Walmart would be sued for all they're worth. I buy 'premium' Ol' Roy, which is still super cheap, but just as good as Iams, Purina, etc.. For the price you pay, it's a good deal.

I volunteer at an animal shelter, I have had dogs all of my life (that have lived 14 years), and I currently have 6 dogs. I have tried super premium dog food ($60 a bag) and cheap dog food ($20 a bag). Honestly my dogs have done better on Ol Roy high performance than ANY other dog food. (Shiny coats, Muscular bodies, Solid bowel movements, no vomiting). If people actually read the ingredients and nutritional analysis in Ol Roy High performance and compared it with Purina Dog Chow, Pedigree, and Science Diet they would see that it is a better quality dog food. But it seems that many of the pretentious dog owners that are berating and misjudging pet owners that feed their dogs Ol Roy, are doing so because of the name and because they gave into the peer pressure of buying "fashionable brands" of dog food. What do you think dogs/wolves who survive in the wild for 10-15 years eat: whatever is available! (road kill and what ever the road kill ate). Stop over analyzing and judging. Spending a lot of money on dog food does not make you a good dog owner (this is how many people rationalize the quality of their parenting, buy the amount of money they spend). Making sure your dog eats everyday, gets plenty of water and exercise, social interactions, affection, and discipline: Makes you a good dog owner! Ol Roy may not work for all dogs with super sensitive systems. I have a yorkie, a puggle, and 4 pitbulls and they are in perfect health.

How to grade your dog's food:
Start with a grade of 100:

meats in the top 3 ingredients, subtract 3 points
7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points
8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3 points
9) If corn is listed in the top 5 ingredients, subtract 2 more points

This stuff is awesome!!!! Why would you pay more for the same great nutrition? No seriously... I started feeding this food to one of my dogs when he was about 4 years old... he actually changed colors!! His coat used to be black but it turned white real fast. Then he started growing things... First an extra ear, then an extra eye. Before long, my dog had a least two or three of everything!!! Do NOT feed this food to your dog!!! He will die and then turn into a zombie!!!

Seriously!? Is this food really as bad as people say it is? If so, how could it still be on the market? It IS the number 1 selling dog food in America... Oh wait, I know... it's a government cover up!!! They are allowing it to be sold so they can put evil preservatives in it!!! Ahhhhh!!!! Organic food help us!!!

My 11 year old Welsh Corgi just died from Kidney Disease. She was diagnosed in November and passed away in May. She had been fed Ol Roy her whole life. Unfortunately, I was unaware at the time how bad this food was for her. It was the biggest mistake of my life feeding her this food. Please research dog food before buying.

this dog food is OBVIOUSLY garbage. the ingredients are awful and this company has had TONS of recalls over the years, mostly Salmonella poisoning and causing liver damage. how this hiddious brand has the general rating it does puzzles me.
I can understand with the economy failing it can be hard to feed quality dog food but there ARE better foods. I think Kirkland Signature is the best food in that price range, if you can afford better, there are better foods out there.

here are the first 5 ingreidents in Kirkland Signature dog food :
Chicken, chicken meal, whole grain brown rice, cracked pearled barley, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols and Vitamin E)

now here are the first 5 ingreidents of Ol' Roy dog food :
Ground yellow corn, soybean meal, ground whole wheat, corn syrup, poultry fat, Meat and bone meal (Animal Fat Preserved with BHA and Citric Acid)

- meat and bone meal!??! that could be anything!! that could be cat and dog meat for all you know.
-perserved with BHA!?! this is a KNOWN cancer causing agent.

My rottweiler died of cancer and I believe these supermarket brands contributed to that. I have tried to educate myself on what to feed my dogs now and hopefully my new pup will have a much longer life. I would never even consider feeding my dogs this garbage.

For those wondering why Ol'Roy is so terrible and so harmful to their pets, I can tell you at least one reason. The so called calcium in it is made up primarily from chicken bones and feathers. It has plenty of calcium, but it's not a digestible kind, and you're starving your pet of the calcium needed in their proper diet. And who knows what else is empty, useless nutrition. My dad, a veterinarian of 49 years before he retired at 76 years old, would see people checking Ol' Roy out at Wal-Mart and just shake his head sadly. It's a shame this stuff is still on the market. If you want a good store found dog or cat food, Purina is still one of the very top. If your pet has special needs, ask your vet about Science Diet appropriate for their problems or a cheaper store bought alternative, it won't be as good as what Science Diet can provide, but it can help and definitely be better and not threatening to your pet's health like Ol' Roy is.

I named my dog "Ol'Roy", after this great line of pet food products...NOT! Ol'Roy is pure crap. They had recalls on a lot of their stuff a few years back because it was causing kidney failure. I have given the beef basted biscuits to my bullmastiff and I didn't know he could shit so much. This happened the day after I gave him but two of the biscuits. I realize that different breeds can have different digestive tendencies, and that what is good for one may be bad for another, but I would recommend feeding natural products regardless. It makes sense to me that dogs do better eating things they would find in the wild. I feed "Taste of the Wild" grain-free dog food http://www.tasteofthewildpetfood.com/ and we make our own treats, which is actually very easy and economical. More info on that here http://greenliving.suite101.com/article.cfm/diy_nat ural_dog_treat_recipes .

In researching various foods - www.dogfoodanalysis.com - I have found that the only storebought brand that is worth feeding is the Kirkland brand. You can get it at Costco, perfect for those with financial concerns and a decent blend.

For financial reasons I switched to Ol Roy for my 3- 5 year old dogs. Two of the 3 immediately began to lose hair by the handful and developed big red spots on the skin which smelled awful. I stopped the Ol Roy and within 2 days their hair started growing back and the red spots are clearing up. I don't know what it is, but I will never feed it to my dogs again.

Skin and Coat Formula - Brown Bag - Actuall a better food than the Purina lines, Science Diet or most of the Iams/Ukenuba, and a lot cheaper. I work with rescue groups and have read every dog food label I could find looking for the most bang for the buck. The Skin and coat formula has lamb meal as the first listed ingredient. It does contain corn but so do many of the higher end brands. The other varieties of Ol Roy have corn as their first ingredient. I feed my own dogs Taste of the Wild and believe firmly that grains have no place in a canine diet. However, many times it has come down to finding a less expensive food to prevent owners from having to surrender their pets. I often recommend the skin and coat formula but no other. It is comparible to many of the lower end "premium" foods at about a 1/4 of the price.

I gave this food one star, only because I couldn't give it NO STARS.

When I adopted my Lab, his previous owners were feeding him Ol' Roy, because they vet said it was OK. But people, use common sense, how nutritious could a food be at $7 for a 40 pound bag!! Think about human food -- McDonald's costs $1 for a burger. Nutritious food from the grocery store costs so much more! Owen was having digestive problems, and had diarrhea, or was throwing up almost every day. He was lethargic, and also underweight.

Dogs have a problem digesting corn - many dogs are allergic (humans can digest it, which is why so much of food contains it in some form). Same with Soy products. Some Ol' Roy products may list meat as the first ingredient. BUT, this is meat INCLUSIVE of its water content. In order to make kibble, the water must be removed.

Dog food ingredients (as well as human food) are listed on the bag in order of weight. Meaning, the product that is used the most will weigh the most, and is listed first. HOWEVER, after the water is removed, it moves the meat product down much further on the list.

Things you want to look for: MEAT MEAL (water has already been removed); NO SUGAR (or high fructose corn syrup, or anything ending in -ose); if it has a fat, you want the source named (CHICKEN FAT, not ANIMAL FAT); NO BEET PULP;

Please, please, please!! Read www.dogfoodanalysis.com -- they don't review Ol' Roy, but they do review other foods (including other popular brands such as Science Diet, Iams, Purina, etc.), and they TELL YOU WHY they do or do not recommend certain brands of food.

You may ask, why did my vet recommend Science Diet if it's no good? VETS DO NOT GET NUTRITION TRAINING. Science Diet, Purina, etc., come to your vets office, talk about how "good" their food is, and try to get your vet to recommend it. Similar to when pharmaceutical reps go to your doctor's office and try to get your doctor to recommend their drug over another company's drug.

I also threw my table away if you could sit at a table u know had magets on it u have a better tummy then me.I just cant beleave no one will call me back or even try to make this right i work for a vary big company and if something like this would happen and us not take care of it i would hate to see what would happen.Just thought i would see if anyone else has had the same or like problem. If they would of made this right i guess stuff happens like i said i have a big dog and buy lots of dog food a week

I think expensive dog food is a total waste of money. I fed our 2 dogs Ol roy. I don't care what the experts or vets say. It's all about making money. In fact, one vet told me that table scraps are fine...he feeds them to his dog. My last dog was a dalmation/lab and lived 14 yrs. and lived on Ol Roy canned and dry food, Ol Roy dog biscuits and table scraps at least 3 times a week. Ever since we were kids, we feed all our cats and dogs practically the cheapest food out there and they were healthy, playful and lived a full life. So, that's not luck, thats proof...give me a break, they are animals. Animals have a tougher digestive system. They can handle it.
So keep spending all your money on expensive dog food. It's no different from expensive shampoos and for that matter, people food. I don't buy necassarily the cheapest food and I don't buy the most expensive.

I put my 2 year old newfoundland dog on the Ol Roy Complete Nutrition dog food for all breeds. I introduced it gradually in his old food over several days. OMG the day he had it as 100% of his diet, he got massive explosive diarrhea!!! He did not have enough energy to get up and squat, he just went all over himself, it was just pouring out, you can hear it and the smell's enough to make you vomit! Pulled him toward the bathroom and he pees himself the same way. Give him a bath, take him out to let him do his business (for the sake of our carpets) and he had a serious puddle of rectal bleeding, it looked like he had a menstrual period, and I'm not trying to be funny! There were blood clots in his feces. I don't know what damage this food has done! I am worried about my dog and in this economy I can't afford a vet right now. Sure I paid less on a 44 lb bag of dog food but now I have to throw out 40 lbs of it! I'm no longer feeding him this crap! Our house stinks like hell. This is a 2 year old, 100% house-trained, GOOD dog who loves to please. Those of you who have experience with this breed will know what I mean, he's an awesome dog. Don't feed your dog this crap to save money! You'll pay dearly when he turns up ill or possibly dead. I'm hoping our dog will recover and the rectal bleeding doesn't worsen.

My Maltese has been eating this brand of food for over a year with no problems whatsoever. There is no reason believe it is doing her any harm.

Frankly, I find some of these 'horror stories' very hard to believe.

There is nothing wrong with this food.

We just rescued a small dog from a home and they were feeding him ol roy. After reading the review below we started to change him to a better food right away. After 2 days of switching him to purina we are having some problem with him being sick. Thankyou for the reviews so we can be more responsible pet owners.

I bought this food because the colored bag looked neat and it was cheap. I brought it home and poured my lab a nice big bowl for his dinner. He ate it and looked less than happy, as if it was 4am and there was nothing else around for chow. Over the next few weeks he began to explode out of his anus, like a shotgun blast all over my new white sofa. It was a blood bath of stank dog feices. it stunk to high hell, it stuck to everything like slim, it was like a rotten carp baking in the sun. 4 days later or betsy began to have what appeared to be a massive stoke. one pupil was blow her entire right side no longer worked. NOTHING AT ALL, that stank poo ran our of the R side of her backside like the mightly mississippi. As we were getting ready to load her into the car and bring her into the vet she began to have a seizure at which time she voided everything that was in her from everyhole. When the seizure stopped she was all confused, didnt know who we were and began to maul everything and everybody around all while voiding. So her mouth which is now nipping at everything/one is dripping half digested Ol' Roy (which has got to be made from road kill, placentas, "corn" (ive seen corn as it passes and this is somewhat a close sample) and what ever else the street sweeper picks up on its moring rounds) Ol Betsy now looks and acts like the zombies in the dawn of the dead. When we finally got her to the vet that placed her on hospice and now only has a few days left. Solid work Ol Roy you killed my lover

Old roy is the worst dog food ever! anyone who says that their dog does good on it you are the most ignorant poorly educated person on the planet. If you dont believe me google 'whats in commercial pet food'. You will be horrified. Orijen or any similar brand might not give your dog diarrhea but what happens when you switch from shit food to high quality, your precious dog will go through a detox. meaning that his body will purge all the bad stuff. hot spots, watery eyes, diarrhea, ect... will all get worse before it gets better. wolves in the wild live to 12-15 years in the wild, why do we consider a house dog geriatric at 6? working at the vets you rarely see a dog over 12. why is this??? ITS THE SHITTY FOOD!!!! People there was this guy who made is own special dog food and he owned sled dogs. He ran the idatarod(sp??) with dogs that were up to 17 years old. Please google/youtube it, you will be horrified if you actually give a shit for your dog.

This is the absolute worst dog food you could buy. Euthanized animal meat is among the meat by products in this so called food. And corn is the first ingredient, something that is of no nutritional value to a dog. If it is a product I wouldn't eat, then I wouldn't feed it to my dog! I have seen several people say that is cheap so they can afford to feed their dog. If you can't afford to feed your dog a decent food, then you probably can't afford to take them to the vet when they are sick either. You shouldn't have a dog! There is minimal nutritional value in this product and anyone who says their dog does well on this crap doesn't know what a healthy dog looks and acts like. Frankly, any food you can buy at a grocery store is not good for your dog. Go to a good pet supply warehouse or kennel and buy good food like Eagle Pack Holistic or Canidae. It isn't as cheap as Ol Roy, but your dog will really thrive on it. And they won' t even need as much since these food actually contain quality meat products that their bodies can use more easily.

~ Rating is for Ol' Roy Skin & Coat (Lamb/Rice) ~

Our dogs (Cane Corso's, Mastiff X's, Schipperkes and rescues) LOVE this food (we feed Ol' Roy Skin & Coat - Lamb & Rice) and they've all done beautiful on it. Especially dogs in rescue/foster. However, it's hard to find! It's always the empty shelf and I've driven/checked 4 or 5 Wally's from San Bernardino all the way to the Hi-desert, every day at times to try and catch it in stock. If we do find a bag or two or full shelf, we buy them out and ask for whatever they have in the back/stockroom. My boyfriend has been successful catching a bag or two at the Wally in Lancaster or Palmdale (SoCal). What is up with that???

We're at the point where we're offering to order a pallet or two, just so we can get it. Anyone else using this specific food run into the same probs? My BF doesn't mind buying the smaller bags, but since I do rescue, I prefer to buy the larger/bulk. (Even tho, if you do the math, the 18/20 lb bag is cheaper in the long run - go figure!).

Thanks!

Angie

Unless the food you are eating is from my garbage can, Ol'Roy should not be the food for your precious pet. Read the ingredient list there is Nothing, absolutely nothing nutritious in Ol'Roy. Dogs eat meat, not rotten corn left overs and long name chemicals. Other big brand dog food is bad enough, and Ol'Roy is the worst. You should take your dog to the vet and put him/her to sleep if you insist on feeding them this crap. Your dog deserves better.
