Quick, easy, done. I can't see any reason to heat up the oven (and the house) when I can use the microwave. My current microwave (1100 watts) has doneness sensors, and settings for several types of food/cooking. It works better for medium sized potatoes than the large ones. But, just as it's best to turn any dish half way thru the cooking, it is helpful to turn the potatoes also. I place them on the outer edge of a plate, and when the set cooking cycle has finished I roll them over so the bottom is now on the top. Then I cook on high for another 2 - 4 minutes.

simply just wrap them in plastic wrap, poke some holes and throw them in and in about 5-7 minutes you will have a baked potato or a microwaved baked potato.

I am so not fond of microwaved baked potatoes. But, I will if it seems like the potatoes in the oven have quite a ways to go and everything else is done, zap it a minute or so and it generally comes out with hardly any effect. But if done totally, comes out a bit on the rubber side.

Potatoes are one of the few foods that I actually cook in the microwave. It's not quite as good as an oven, but it is quicker, and adequate.

This is definitely a convenience for baked potatoes and it does a fair job of it, the inside is usually moist and fluffy. I rarely use it for this though, I always like mine coated with oil and sprinkled with sea salt then wrapped in foil and baked in the oven or I do a lot of twice baked potatoes and you need a crisper skin for this.

As long as you finish them off in an oven to crisp up the skin, this is a huge time saver.
