Zimbabwe's capital used to be the jewel in Africa's crown. Those expecting your typical run of the mill African city will be surprised at how modern and westernised this city is. Sadly, times have changed and Harare has lost alot of its appeal thanks to the dictatorship in Zimbabwe. But don't believe the media hype... Its still a relatively safe city and has excellent facilities that you just wont find in most African cities. Makes a great location to soak up some urban atmosphere in this part of the world before venturing out to the 'real' Africa which is Zimbabwe's stunning safari parks and jaw-dropping natural attractions. However for a far nicer and more relaxed Zimbabwean city, try Bulawayo in the south of the country. It has all the facilities that Harare has, but without much of the political problems found in the capital.

Why would a white person want to visit Zimbabwe?...

Capital in one oif the best vacation destinations I know of. Great golf in the city with Chapman and Royal Harare etc. BUT don't stay in Harare: Travel to victoria falls and enjoy great rafting on the Zambezi or go to the eastern Highlands and relax, walk and play 18 or even 2 x 18 on the fantastic Leapard Rock Golf Club. Walking safaries in Kariba is even a must, and for those who really want to do something else canoing a week in the wilderness of Mana Polls is ... something else. Keep clear of the Hippos and crocs though!
