This and door to door vacuum cleaner sales men. And Avon went door to door too, instead of lazy salespeople associates who just drop catalogues in the workplace lunch room.

Yes and they came to the house more than Jehovah Witnesses.

They used to give out plastic letter openers with the Fuller Brush Man as the handle. Everytime the guy showed up, I used to con him out of another one, and used them in my backyard knife throwing competition.

I barely remember these guys. I know my grandmother bought brushes from these salesmen. I'm willing to bet that if I dug deep enough in the attic or other storage I might even be able to come up with one.

What a blast from the past. I remember the Fuller Brush man coming by our house every so often, and always leaving a small gift. I can't remember what my mom bought, but I know she was a customer for years. I don't really remember when they stopped coming around.

Yet another cultural icon that has all but disappeared from the scene (I say all but because I think there may still be a few around in rural areas, but then again maybe Fuller is totally out of business - too lazy to check). Anyway, the FB man would come around with an amazing assortment of goods (not just brushes), and Mom and the neighbors almost always placed some kind of order. I remember plastic letter openers that he used to give out as a promotional item - I had one until not too many years ago, and probably if I looked hard enough through some of my miscellaneous junk hoards I'd find it.

Two or three times a year the Fuller Brush Man would knock on the door. He sold all kinds of stuff: mops, brooms, personal care items, etc. The products were all first rate as I recollect. My mother had a broom with a steel handle and some kind of synthetic straws for fifty years! She also had brushes that were good quality for that period of time.
