The only thing I watch in the Olympics is when they light the torch. Eliminating softball and baseball from the 2012 Olympics didn't make me ball like a baby.

The bigger story would have been that they stayed in the Olympics. List more than 5 countries that play baseball?

More non-story than aything. I never lost sleep over the fact that baseball was not an Olympic Sport for years. I do clamor for the day when they make American Football an Olympic Sport. Oh to see a 370 pound American lineman pancake a 142 pound French cornerback (or in this case, "Crepe").

Not that big of a story, but it is an anti-American move if I've ever seen one. . .

I loved softball during the Athens games. I woke up at 4 am to watch almost every game live on CNBC and MSNBC and cheered on the final on USA at about 9 AM. And, baseball is one of my favorite spectator sports too. This HAS to be a backlash against the US, and I feel that some anti-American sentiment was involved here. Perhaps some sexism too, considering that softball is one of the few women-only sports? Interestingly enough, the recent 2005 Softball World Cup proved the Americans Always Win theory wrong when Japan defeated Team USA in the final. And, then, the International Olympic Committee made a big deal about introducing new sports to replace the ousted ones and even failed to do that! At least Baseball and Softball will be in Beijing, and I'll be sure to watch every game aired of both sports on the networks of NBC. And, at least, the sports weren't COMPLETELY culled, just temporarlily eliminated. Still, I'm planning on going to London 2012, and I definately wanted to see the US softball team at least once. Let's hope the appeal of the United States Olympic Committee (and let's not forget Japan or Cuba!) is a successful one and the two bat-and-ball sports are reinstated!
