Blade Runner 5

The director's cut is particularly good. Not for the spaceship battle, pigs in space crowd, this is an intellectual, sombre and carefully crafted movie, dank and grim in theme and feel. As a vision of the future, it is all too plausible but good as it is, it is only a shadow of the story that inspired it, Philip Dick's "Do Androids dream of Electric Sheep?"

Blade Runner 5

Oh, look, a film on this list that actually qualifies as futurism. An interesting spin on a classic Phillip K. Dick novel - Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep - that was groundbreaking in its vision of the future as a distopia where the advances of tecnology have done little or nothing to address the issues of the past. Progress presses on for its own sake and brings wih it a whole new set of problems.

The film works on levels that I don't think the book actually ventured in to, the very nature of existance and reality as the Dekker character begins to question his own origins while tracking down the rogue replicants.

Brilliant marriage of sci-fi, film noire, and art house action film.

Blade Runner 5

a beautiful work of art, blade runner is a somber sci-fi detective story that asks the question, what is human?. the replicant characters, marked for death by the futuristic l.a.p.d., seem more human than human. poor inventions used as slaves with four years to live yet the ability to desire and enjoy life, to love, and to feel sadness. all they want is to live. this movie is my absolute favorite science fiction film to date.

Blade Runner 5

If you have the attention span for it, Blade Runner is an underrated sci-fi masterpiece. It moves slowly, but asks some serious questions and raises fascinating issues about cloning/slavery/what makes a person. . .a forgotten Harrison Ford film. It's a terrific DVD rental if you feel like watching something different. Get the director's cut. . .
