Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope 3

Without scrolling down, I assume that I'm not the first person here to point out that the first words to scroll across the screen are "a long time ago" so it technically isn't futurism. But more importantly, it's not really an imagining of what will come of the world based on current societal trends and factors, which is kind of what the whole futurism genre is about. It's just a space swashbucler.

Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope 1

Sorry.

"Long time ago. . .galaxy far, far away"

Does not belong on the futuristic movies list. Sorry to throw the "literal" flag.

Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope 5

This is the movie that started it all. It inspired two sequels and three prequels. The movie starts out showing Darth Vader capturing Princess Leia's ship. Before Leia gets captured, she puts the blueprints of the death star into R2-D2. R2 and C3PO takes an escape pod to a planet called Tatooine. Luke Skywalker's Uncle soon buys both R2D2 and C3PO.
R2-D2 runs away to find Obi Wan Kenobi. Luke goes after R2 in his speeder. Some Sandpeople attack Luke but Obi Wan scares them off. Luke returns home only to find both his aunt and uncle slaughtered. All that is left of them are smoldering skeletons.
Luke then joins Ben Kenobi. They get Han Solo and Chewbacca to take them to Alderan but Alderan has been destroyed by the Death Star. The Death Star's tractor beam captures the Millinium Falcon.
After turning off the tractor beam, Kenobi and Vader have a lightsaber fight. Darth Vader wins and Han, Luke, and Leia escape in the Falcon. Soon after this, the Rebel Alliance attacks the Death Star.
The first seen where Leia's ship is captured and the laser gun fights in this movie were amazing. The lightsaber fight between Vader and Kenobi was lame compared to the lightsaber duels in the three new movies. This is one of the best Sci-Fi movies that has ever been made. I give Star wars IV: A NEW HOPE a 5 star rating.

Bah... somebody already pointed out that according to the scroll it was "A long time ago". Oh well. This was a magnificent film, and it started it all.

Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope 5

This flick is the best of the lot. It establishes the genre. Now I'll admit that the first sequel or two weren't that bad, but overall this was the climax of the entire gaggle six movies. The last three were indifferent to stinker.

I hate to step on toes, but I, II and III are mostly twaddle.

Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope 5

The finest example in the genre. Everything a futuristic film should be. Action, gadgets, good versus evil, alien creatures, vehicles of various sizes, all manner of meyham and chaos. Brilliant soundtrack as well, always a plus to have great fight music when you need it, and lovely haunting for when you need that as well. Lucas and company set the bar with this flick.

Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope 5

One of the top five films of all time. Great movie that is the standard for others that have followed throughout the years.

Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope 4

More than competent space opera fun. Probably the best of the series, before the franchise became mega-marketed.

Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope 4

STAR WARS was a good movie. NOT the pinnacle of ultimate tip-top kick-ass space films of all time, as I've heard it referred as. A closer, more objective look at it spells things out. George's direction wasn't everything it could have been, and it shows; the dialogue is hurried and cue-card wooden and a lot of the action is herky-jerky (I swear the last scene of Luke's Tuscan raider attack was reversed and rolled forward again). My biggest beef was with the back-and-forth rocking motion when the cameras focused on the pilots of the Rebel fighter ships; what was WITH that?!? Now that I'm off my soapbox, I DO have to stress my earlier statement that STAR WARS was a good movie: it was a serious take on a subect that was too often the butt of ridicule; the story was simple without being detrimental; and the special effects were dazzling and worthy of enshrinement. Seen through the eyes of a 10-year-old in a theater, it was pure bliss (the part where the Millenium Falcon hovers, backs out of the Death Star hangar, spins and fires the engines.....too cool for words; my jaw was in my lap from there on). Will go down as a monumental influence for generations to come.
