 | GenghisTheHun (177) 06/26/2006 | Seth Bullock is one of the key characters in the series, Deadwood.
He and his partner came to Deadwood from Montana to go into the hardware business. When he arrives Wild Bill Hickok is shot, and because of his law enforcement background, he is given the job of sheriff to bring some law into the camp.
He is the opposite of the scoundrel, Al Swearengen, but they become allies to keep control of the camp locally and maintain some type of order.
The real life Bullock had been a sheriff in Montana and had served in the Montana Territory Legislature. He and Star actually did come to Deadwood and go into the hardware business. He lived the rest of his life in Deadwood and died there after the end of WWI.
He was a successful businessman and he and Star eventually built the Bullock Hotel that still stands in Deadwood.
He became a fried of Teddy Roosevelt and was appointed U. S. Marshal by Teddy. He, along with Tom Mix and others, rode in Teddy's inagurual parade for his second term in 1905.
Bullock is buried in Deadwood's Mt. Moriah Cemetery along with Wild Bill and Calamity Jane.
