One of my favorite films. Cruise should have won an Oscar for his performance.

I've never cared much for this movie, but I can't say I hate it either. Cruise doesn't seem engaged with his role much, and it drags down a pretty good performance by Gooding.

You dont think of this as a Sports movie, but is it and it's a good one. It has staying power because it works for both sexes. It's one of the ultimate chick-movies-a-guy-can-appreciate or guy-movies-a-chick-can-appreciate. Nice love story told between Cruise and Renee Zelwegger. The women in this movie were really shown as strong - Zelwegger's sister, Cuba Gooding's wife, and of course Kelly Preston in a great and sexy role. The theme I got out of it was that you have to be true to yourself, be yourself let the chips fall where they may. Take a chance on Love and Life. Really good stuff at work here.

Thanks for the validation that this is in fact a sports movie. One of my college friends once ridiculed me for owning Jerry Maguire on videotape, saying he didn't know I was such a softie for chick flicks. Feeling my masculinity threatened, I grabbed the nearest beer bottle in one hand, clutched my remote control in the other, and muttered I just remember this movie being about football, dude.

I thought this was an outstanding movie. There was enough of a glimpse into the world of sports agents and struggling athletes to make this qualify as a sports movie, and there was also some phenomenal acting by Cruise, Gooding Jr., and the little kid. In my opinion, the little kid in this movie was absolutely the least annoying little kid to appear in any movie ever.
