Not at all, mine were and are, IN GENERAL what are called "Conservative Democrats," though neither likes Bush anymore. My mom did before Bush's DISGRACEFULLY LATE response to Katrina, and my father, I think, he's old school and never tells anyone who he voted for, actually voted for Republican presidential candidates from the 80's until he saw what Bush was all about.

Damn right they are. And they had my sister and I reading complex material before age 10. What a coincidence! However, that's not why I'm a Liberal. I'm a Liberal, because they were right, and taught me well. As I've said before, most parents who teach their children the MAJOR importance of being well read, and preach an open mind are going to raise Liberal children. But them simply being what they are is a dumb reason to be ANYTHING. We do have conservatives in our family though - not many, but we do have them. These are the people who hung my Mom's cat for fun when she was 10! and laughed over her weeping 2 hrs before they had to go to church way back in 1960. These conservatives in my family are the ones who stuck a hot iron to my 3 yr old ass in 1982, and claimed to the high heavens it was an accident. These conservatives in my family are the ones who spread the rumor around Old Fort, NC that my Mom, sister, and I were devil worshippers because we enjoyed AC/DC. These conservatives in my family are the ones who wish Carolina wouldn't have so many black players. I COULD GO ON! In other words, me being well read, and the conservatives in my family are the reason I'm a LiberaL! YOU GOTTA BETTER REASON!? Update: Little TOO open last night. I have to stop wearing my heart on my sleeve. UPDATE: HEY, great political minds, check out my new Big Brother weblist. Especially if you loooove Cappy. UPDATE: Good point, Mr Political........................Winnie was one of our favorites growing up. On another note, your second point is understood, but I must point out that I know many who consider their parents' povS on politics idiotic. My parents happen to be correct........sue me. ROCK ON , WINNIE!

Note to bluetarbaby: The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh does not count as complex reading material. Parental partisanship always seeps through to children, whether it be intentionally or incidental. I even know quite a few moderates who lean one way or another simply because it was the environment they were raised in. Just common sense.

What a stupid reason to align yourself to a particular ideology. -- If this is your reasoning behind your politics, then you really need to CUT THE CORD ALREADY!

My mom and dad weren't liberals. Both have been right-wingers all their lives. Neither of them liked the hippie's, Black Panthers, radicals and the one's who protested against the war. Dad served in Vietnam from 1969-1973 and spent another two years on reserve. Mom used to go to many military bases when she was in her late teens to adulthood. She loved men in uniform. She told me she met Bob Hope when he joked around with the troops. Then weeks later, she met my dad and they fell in love. ... The reason why I take opposite political approaches with my parents was because I look at America's problems from a different perspective. I also had a liberal college history professor who pretty much changed how I looked at things and he became my mentor and best friend.

Liberalism isn't a learned behavior. I really try not to take sides in this ridiculous culture war that is totaly tearing this country apart. But something that I give the liberals the edge on, is they make up their own mind. Most conservatives were raised to be conservative. Most liberals were probably raised in a non-partisan houshold. Then again, so are most moderates.

I have a warped mix parentaly. I'm mostly conservative myself but my dad is a hardcore conservative, while mom is a calming down medium liberal who protested almost everything in high school and college. Dad thinks we should close the borders and zap illegals, while mom thinks we should do more to help out the world. I lean more to the conservative side of course but mom usualy keeps me from going overboard like dad does. She was pissed off when I joined the Marines, while dad was proud, yet mocking me as he and his father were both squids. Weird mix, like I said.

Political views are more than likely, gonna be formed at home and are greatly influenced by your parents and where you live. Such is the case for me, even though I'm probably more to the Right than my parents were. I've gotten the whole Liberal indoctrination from school ending in College where I ran into a heavy dose of Conservative thinking. It's been good to be able to see things from both perspectives.
