I don't think this is a constructive generalization. Selfishness transcends ideology. There are plenty of selfish reasons to be liberal as well, depending on the circumstances. Jar Jar's dad was being a jerk, and his friend was being a friend. End of story.

This list started well but it's getting dumber as I scroll down. . .radicals and zealots (left and right) are all 'greedy'. . .how that greed manifests itself may differ, but the greed and ambition to influence is comparable. More attempts to say SEE! I'M DIFFERENT FROM (insert other group here)! In reality, you share much more with your opponent than you probably understand and comprehend.

This is certainly page one of the propaganda handbook. I get a kick out of two adults (one liberal, one conservative) discussing ideology. The liberal, eventually, says something along this line. It evokes either laughter or hard feelings. UPDATE: It's hard to respond when someone hits the truth and pertinence jackpot like Jar Jar does here.

Before I took my current summer vacation, I rode my bike to my dad's house. I was exhausted and all I asked from him was 50 cents because I wanted to drink a soda. He didn't give me any money nor did he offer me a drink. Then I went to one of my closest friends (he was a liberal) and I asked him if I could borrow a couple of quarters. He didn't give me two quarters. He gave me 5 bucks, all in quarters. That pretty much summed it up there. My conservative da-da was more selfish than my close liberal buddy.

This is what liberals cloak themselves in when arguing for larger government control of the economy and higher taxes but the reality is much different. Many neo-con's however believe in what George Will has coined statecraft and soulcraft- expanded government expenditures for the promotion of public virtues- not blind redistribution programs that do more harm than good. In the end the use of funds a the federal level is always going to cost increasingly more than it would in localized programs and with the parameters being laid down from Washington the chances of success are greatly reduced. People need to understand that the economy is simply not a zero sum game that can be manipulated any more the physics of building water dams can. Most people wish the best for others and want a healthy vibrant society- we just disagree on how to get there. Liberals for years have accused conservatives of being cold-hearted and selfish when liberal policies were busy destroying our urban communities and trapping generations of unprivleged children in cycles of dependancy from which they will never escape- and that's compassion?
