The "neighborhood" play or the "phantom double play"

Umpires giving an out on a force play where the fielder is just close to the bag, not actually touching it.

This usually occurs at second base, occasionally at third, and virtually never at first. Shortstop or second turning a double play, misses the bag, USUALLY by inches, while in the pivot to first. A lot of umpires will give them the out, provided the play isn't close. The problem comes, to my mind, where the fielder misses the bag by FEET, or the play is clearly close. Umpires usually deny it happens, although it clearly does, and apologists say its to avoid injury. As a coach and umpire (albeit at a much lower lever) I suspect it has more to do with umpires anticipating the play. Not a big deal to my mind, except in the extreme cases, but it belongs on this list.

Home-field advantage or cheating? Close calls are part of the game and this one is a little subjective to me. . .

Depends on the umpire, as long as it's inches, and if you have time to tag the base you should make an effort, so many arguments, but a part of baseball and will be dealt with by the umpire when the time comes.
