Are there any professional athletes that haven't been subject to perfomance enhancement drugs at least once in their illustrious careers?...whereas today it is quite the norm it is a matter of when your tested that the substance isn't detected in your system over a duration of time.Would that be safe to say?

After they test positive for steroids, they should also be fired from their sporting organization and forbidden to play again.

only if the testing is found to be 100% positive because mistakes can occur. but if they are found to be using them then yes. the last thing we need to do is to show it still pays to do wrong even if you get caught.

In theory, I agree with this. I do know, however, where the good King is going with this thought. No, you can't take the HR record away from Bonds if he comes back and jumps ahead of Aaron. No, you can't take the single season HR record away from Bonds. There is no way to prove he was on roids that season. Was he on roids? I'm sure he was, it just can't be proven. You sure can tell how the focus on testing has had an effect this season. The numbers are back to normal. Look at Sosa. Can you imagine his numbers a few years ago if he was being tested on a regualr basis? Yes, there were several cheaters. Thank goodnes for the intense focus we have right now on steroids. Those congressional hearings were a positive.

Ive thought this for quite while now. Weve got to remember that athletes more so than actors or even politicians are role models to our young. When you think of who the greatest athletes of our time are; Mohammmed Ali, Michael Jordon, Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, they all had charachter 1st and foremost and none were ever said to have done steroids. Of course all of these guys were around at a different time when charachter and morality was simply more on peoples minds.

Terrific idea. Why we tolerate this is a complete mystery to me. . .it seems that sportwriters are in the pockets of the athletes and teams that are trying to protect the 'golden goose.'

Times change and athletes find new ways of becoming better. I think the records should have an asterisk denoting the use of performance enhancing drugs. I know players that use roids and it doesnt seem to make them hit any better. Barry Bonds (regardless of his attitude) could always hit, maybe drugs have prolonged his career and given him additional power (most likely) but dude still had to be able to hit. Imagine Tony Gywnn on steroids instead of Twinkies.

After beating John Ruiz, and winning the WBA heavyweight Championship, James Toney was immediately stripped of the title and suspended from boxing, after testing positive for steroids. That was a step in the right direction. I do believe in second chances though, but only second chances. Anyone who has tested positive for steroids, and suspended should sign a waiver and be ready to submit to testing at anytime troughout the year, with the understanding that there will be no third cahnces.
