Harryhausens special effects dinosaurs weren't a patch on Raquel Welch's twin special effects.

Ignore the plot; it's standard survival fare that prehistoric movies sink or swim on, and John Richardson and Raquel Welch grunt and gad about in typical fashion. The dinosaur scenes are the top draw here, and Harryhausen proves himself up to the task. The pterodactyl was a pleasant mix of model and stage mechanics, but I really dug the mini-Rex sequence at the Shell People's village. That thing moved like you'd expect the real thing to do, and had a nasty disposition. When Richardson stuck it with a pole, and you could still hear and see it breathing.....fabulous! The desolate wasteland lizard battles were overblown, but neat to watch if you were young enough. A milestone in Ms. Welch's career (please see my previous post on this movie), and one that most forget is a Ray mainstay.
