Legend has it that Winn Parish refused to secede from the Union in the Civil War and was a little Union area in the middle of Confederate Louisana.  Winn is the home base of the powerful Long family of Louisana.  Both Earl K. Long and his brother Huey Long, both former governors, came from Winnfield, the county seat.

Winn is in north Louisana and has about 17,000 people.
