I am no fan of it but I don't think our problems in this area are by any means solved. My Grandfather, when asked about this (of course he usually brought it up himself), would always say the overly simplistic "it should just be the best person for the job." It never occurred to him apparently that we tried this and it did not work either. That is idealism untempered by reality. I wouldn't mind its outright dissolution but more fundamental benefits need to be created to get everyone on that equal ground to compete for the same jobs.

Really, Affirmative Action is not the brightest idea. It was a good plan for a while, but it has served it's purpose and should be cancelled. People should not get a leg up because their a minority, and a person should not have to lose a job(if they are more qualifyied) because they're white. Besides it is a bit of rasicm that one group gets the leg up due to their race. Let's just all learn to hire people based on their qualifications instead of their skin color, whether they be white or black.

...and exactly when did racism in America end? Exactly when did the effects of segregation, disenfranchisement, and discrimination end? What day was it exactly that equal opportunity, equal protection and equal justice took hold in America? What day was it that sympathy for neo-nazis, white supremecists, the Klu Klux Klan and other racist organizations end? When exactly was it that people throughout the nation stopped celebrating the Civil War as if those who went to war with the United States were not traitors? When did equal education opportunities become real?

Fully Disagree. No one in this country should need a leg up now just because they are a certain color or gender.

As many on both sides of the political spectrum are realizing, Affirmative Action is no longer a necessity in our government. Perhaps at one time it was an important safeguard but Americans need to start trusting that miniorites can get their jobs and education from their skill, not their skin.

I'm not even close to being a conservative. I believe affirmative action has helped minorities and women earn some of the highest paying jobs in this country. Affirmative action is as American as apple pie. And to all you conservatives out there, your hero Clarence Thomas once had a job through the affirmative action program, didn't you know?

Initially it was needed,30 years later, I say no.There are enough civil laws on the books for everyone to be treated fairly.

A.A. needs to be modified or removed. . .it is antiquated and is the cause for unecessary workforce polarization. Yes, there are racial problems to be solved, but A.A. has outlived it's present usefulness. . .Its basis that one group is inferior to another and needs 'help' smacks of racism.

The result in particular gives me the shaft.
