Just saw Lewis Black in Kingston, NY to a crowd of 1700 people. Too bad it was just ok (and this is coming from a big Lewis Black fan). He was preceded by an unexpected comedian who had to overcome a crowd totally not interested in seeing him. He wasn't bad given the circumstances.Lewis Black, on the other hand, did not put on his best show - not even close. It felt as though, since it wasn't being filmed for HBO, why go all out. We were so hoping for his take on the whole political situation, and we got very little so satisfy our craving. So, his total performance was maybe one hour, and, honestly, I can't remember one time when the whole theater was laughing or applauding. Not once.I expect anybody I pay to see to give their all. That includes you Mr. Black.

My opinion on Lewis Black has dwindled in recent years. If you had asked me in 2006, I would have at least gave him 4 stars. A lot of his shows are based on his political and religious views. He seems to always want to come back to his Jewish heritage in many of his jokes, and after awhile it gets a bit tiring. But on the upside, he speaks the truth on many subjects and that's what people really need to hear. He does the basic job of memorizing his speech and pulling off his satire in humorous ways, as any comedian. But unlike others, he likes to emphasize his jokes by yelling angrily, usually at the stupidity of the world around him. Sometimes this works, sometimes it doesn't. When it doesn't, he doesn't freeze, he improvises around it beautifully, and if you ask me, that is the ingredient that makes a successful comedian. He needs to work on his new material though, it almost seems like he's running out of ideas.PROS: Great presentation Sharp insight in the political world CONS: Recent writing is full of holes Insistent yelling starting to lack the enthusiasm it once hadRECOMMENDATIONS: Dvd - Lewis Black - Red, White, and ScrewedQUOTES: "Lactose Intolerant milk?! What the..... If you're lactose intolerant, you can't drink milk.... what the **** is in that carton?"

Just saw Lewis Black at the Town Hall in NYC. After waiting 25 minutes past the target start time another comedian opened his show. Painfully waiting thru this another intermission. Now for Mr. Black. I have been a fan for years and had waited for tickets for a while. Extremely disappointing!!! What was he thinking. The performance was a waste of time and money. Material was boring and considering this is the perfect time for political humor he stayed clear of it all. He was beyond flat. Nothing to say at all. Some ramblings of his young days and then nothing. What a disappointment. The ride home was more eventful.

He was great at the Fox in Atlanta. Not too political for the times, which shocked me. I though he gave both parties a fair share of insults, LMFAO !!!
JohnnyBourbon 09/04/2008
His show sucks and his angry old man schtick isn't and never was funny. I wish he was dead.
CanadaSucks 08/24/2008
Was a three for me- but he's taken on a bulldog quality the last 5-10 years that has improved my opinion of him. As the media and population become more weak and illiterate he just gets more pissed off. We need more of this guy.
Spike65 08/23/2008
Angry, loud, and usually funny if you don't mind all the yelling. I saw a recent special of his and he is jumping on the filthy language bandwagon. Too bad, he is just as funny with an occasional epithet.
bteam01 08/08/2008
Saw him live last night in KC. Felt my head almost exploding from laughter. My father came with me (retired presbyterian minister) and he thinks he is brilliant. You had better be open minded and maybe a little liberal to appreciate his ideas.
edt4 08/05/2008
Occasionally capable of flashes of brilliance, his routines are often hilarious and mordant, but a little of him can go a long way. I respect him, but he's not among my favorite comedians-- then again, considering the quality of most stand-up comics these days, Black stands far, far above the herd, coming across as a combination of Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, and Bill Hicks, especially when you put him up against the likes of Carlos Mencia, Adam Sandler and Carrot-top.

Lewis is such a great comedian, he's my favorite comedian. he's hilarious. And he has such a great temper. Which is hilarious! Man he's great.
ghaliberation 06/13/2008
Thinks screaming can substitute for good material! He is awful and the worst stand up comedian I have ever seen.
FranksWildYear s 12/11/2007
In the classic style he has developed his comedic persona and works it to great effect. His caffinated-grouchy socio-political observer is compelling to watch, in the same way as it is hard to take your eyes off a YouTube video of someone breaking his leg during a stupid stunt. It's kinda painful, but you learn what not to do.
sunstorm1001 06/02/2007
This guy is my favorite! I too can watch his HBO specials a couple times and laugh just as hard the second time as the first, maybe more. His outrage humor is just spot on to things that bother just about everyone from time to time. And his political rants, he should run for Prez, could not be any worse than any of our already elected officials in DC! He takes on both political parties with a no prisoners attitude--bravo!
cubswin5 05/23/2007
The thing I love about Black is the fact that he can do political based humor, show his passion for the topic and yet still be funny. You have these comics like Rosie O' Donnell who get so worked up about politics that they turn into a mean negative unfunny person.
Djahuti 08/20/2006
That's a funny guy.Great delivery and timing!
jimbos 04/30/2006
He's the best!!!
Silver Eagle 252 04/01/2006
Absolutely the best policital rant comedian. Not as dynamic as some others, but still very engaging.
holcombe.jorda n 10/06/2005
good character, hope he doesnt act like that in real life
fluffytuffy 08/27/2005
Very, Very funny!! I have watched his HBO special several times and it still makes me laugh just as hard the 2nd time as the first. Nails everyone, Repubs, Dems, regular folk, just funny with his 'outrage' humor!
gangstassnigga 06/10/2005
When i saw him he was too drunk..........:P
The Slacker 12/23/2004
Loudest and most Political comic, one of the best.
ClassicTVFan47 07/10/2004
Anger based nonsense that is just unappealing and unfunny.
TheDesertFox 07/09/2004
This man is funny as hell.
mikec5 06/15/2004
Laugh my ass off. Cerebral humour that won't touch everybody. He shows us just how far we have allowed our political establish to veer away from common sense.
ukksjis 05/24/2004
He is the worst comedian ever. Instead of being cool, calm and collective, you see a guy that is figity, yells like there's no tomorrow, and he's no fun. I see nothing funny about him or his jokes. He has good political issues, but he sucks as a comedian. Did not make me laugh at all.
oceanspray 04/30/2004
This is an up and comer, definately agree with many of his opinions

Love angry humor, and this guy is the best at it.
dovekiller 09/15/2003
Totally excellent! This is modern and topical comedy at its very best. Where has this guy been? Why haven't we seen him until recently? Did not know he has an album out. Must jump to amazon now and get it.
ricottma 08/18/2003
laugh your ass off...politics is funny!
jcrans 06/10/2003
Here is a guy that was meant for stand-up comedy! Every time I see, or hear him I end up with a sore mid-section from the laughter! Their isn't another out there doing stand-up that kills me like Lew! Truly blows away early Robin Williams.
Redoedo 06/02/2003
I find Lewis Black to be extremely funny. I just listened to "White Album" for the first time, and it was hilarious. His rants weather, New York, and Bill Clinton are priceless. He's highly underrated, but, IMO, he's not the best comedian out there.
grosegreg 06/02/2003
Pure genius.
chris916 06/01/2003
most underrated stand-up ever
kamylienne 03/20/2003
He is incredibly funny! The absolute king of the Rant! If you can't stand sarcasm and an angry, frustrated, high-strung delivery, then this isn't for you. He is absolutely one of my favorite comedians.
JKooks 12/29/2002
Lewis Black is indeed underrated. I've been a fan of this man ever since I first saw him on The Daily Show a few years ago, and I finally got the opportunity to see him about a week ago. I have to say, Lewis Black's delivery is the best, most articulate display of angry humor ever. He handled hecklers pretty well, too, by tearing them to pieces before they could even finish. If you call yourself a fan of comedy and do not own a copy of "The White Album" you're doing something wrong. "You people need to get a grip!"
kittenuplate 06/26/2002
He is underrated, but most of the world's best comedians are.
Mahattma 07/10/2001
Lewis Black is brilliant. That's all I can say. He is one of the most underrated stand-ups in the industry and is more than deserving. If you are a skeptic just watch one of his specials on Comedy Central and you will also recognize his talent.
Buzz_454 05/12/2001
Lewis Black is one of the best comedians out there right now. He rightly deserved the comedy award that he won. I watch the daily show just to see his segment.
