 | Inmyopinion (10) 07/31/2005 | Most broadcasts that I here DO use race. If you ever watch cops, or really any crime related show, America's most wanted. Or if you have ever been around police officers on duty. The factors they usually give when profiling a suspect are; Race, Height, Weight, Gender, and Build.

 | unothename (0) 07/31/2005 | I have to say, I love the use of the word politically correct here. As if somehow not mentioning race falls into the category. I grew up in Canada and they are less likely to mention race in regard to just about anything. I've always felt race relations are much better than in US becuase of this. If your society is gonna claim race does not matter, why would you need to mention it every five minutes in every context ? However, there are some situations when it might be necessary and useful as when police are hunting for their man. But simply saying black ignores all the extreme skin-color variations in the black community. So, other than a descriptor on occassion, I fail to see the purpose. Would you feel compelled to mention someone's nose size ? Studies have found that in random car-searches, where race is not used by police as a factor, white turned up two times the amount of illegal substances. Plenty of studies verify police are more likely to bother blacks. So, as far as frootbooty's blatant racist drivel below, I think your problem has more to do with your short stature and feelings of insecurity.

 | TJGypsy2 (7) 07/30/2005 | Since every broadcast I've ever seen has mentioned race/color if it was known, I would have to assume that a broadcast that didn't mention these things either didn't know, or was told not to reveal it for a specific reason. And yes, I'm O.K. with that.

 | Randyman (103) 07/29/2005 | I don't know what paper you've been reading, or what radio station you listen to. But the first thing I hear on any criminal type news broadcast is the race (if it's known) of the suspect. Maybe it's just L.A., I don't know. If it's true, then I don't have a problem with it. Truth is truth.

 | bluetarbaby (8) 07/29/2005 | I'm more concerned with the media's choice to talk about single kidnappings out of thousands, Ben Affleck's relationships, how good or bad wine is for my heart, rather than calling attention to what an F up is in office right now. Although, I will say lately, they've been slightly (SLIGHTLY) more demanding of answers. But on the race thing, you know what drives me crazy? When the news says something like, be on the lookout for a slender black man about 6ft tall with a shaved head, 20 -25 yrs old, or something like that. And I'm thinking, 'this is the South, do you know how many millions of people fit that description?' It's so racist. Hell, Why don't they just say, call us when you see a black dude?

 | CanadaSucks (45) 07/29/2005 | I just don't see this. I've spent time up and down the East Coast corridor (Boston to Florida) and watched many a news report and the race of the 'suspect' has always been made clear to me.
